Dear Anne
Thank you for reviewing Rogge Cloof. It is always good to hear different perspectives.
Thank you for the positive feedback regarding the staff. Our staff and Guides are available to see that any need of the guests is addressed immediately, which we regard as a key value measurement to our guests. This is also why we ensure that we have contact with all guests via Wi-Fi during their stay to address any issue, or request, such as your request for early departure, which we received and facilitated in this way.
The daily housekeeping visit (and the free Wi-Fi) would have been perfect opportunities to report the challenge with the shower to Management and it would have provided us with the opportunity to address the matter. Housekeeping inspects all showers when preparing units for new arrivals. The Manager visited the Waenhuis unit this morning after your review and found that there is a small crack in the one showerhead. Although this does not prevent the shower from working, it does create a stronger stream of water in the middle section compared to the sides of the rainshower. We do apologise that the slight crack in the showerhead was not detected during the standard pre-arrival inspection.
Although - due to guest demand for family units - two new family units are under construction, away from the existing units, no construction was happening during the time of your stay. Your visit was mid-week and we apologise if the normal day-to-day Reserve maintenance activities were disruptive to you. We have established a hothouse and a vineyard and have free-roaming game within the Eco-Village perimeter, which, together with maintaining the farm dam swimming pools and doing daily housekeeping, do require staff and equipment moving around daily. Being a working farm, the varied activities are a way of life, rather than being 'under construction'.
Thank you for mentioning your need for more towel hooks; we have investigated and have now added more hooks in addition to the free-standing towel rails in each bathroom. We are sorry that you did not find the 8-seater patio set on the Waenhuis 'stoep' comfortable.....it would be fantastic if we could address the preference of all our guests as far as furniture choices are concerned, but unfortunately that is one of the wonderful things about life - the fact that not everyone enjoys the same things!
For a bit of context to our rates and the value to the guest, please keep in mind that Rogge Cloof is not a Guesthouse, it is a Nature Reserve, which gives our guests access to 18 000 ha’s of safe and pure Karoo landscape. Fat Bikes are provided to guests to enjoy free of charge. Accommodation units are serviced daily, except Sundays & Public Holidays. Firewood is stocked free-of-charge daily…the complimentary coffee/tea/rusk tray is restocked at the same time. As your booking with Rogge Cloof was directly via our webpage, we supplied you with extra free firewood, as well as two bottles of Rogge Cloof's own unique wines to enjoy.
A variety of guided activities are available and often guests are treated to a complimentary outing when the daily duties of the Guides provide an opportunity for this. Our Guides are enthusiastic to share the purpose and progress of all Rogge Cloof Reserve activities and developments with guests when taking them on outings, which you unfortunately declined when offered as an activity during your stay.
We noticed that your review rates Rogge Cloof a '2' on Location....we have always found it quite baffling that platforms use 'location' as a review parameter. Of all the things that guests can rate an establishment on, this is the one thing which the establishment has absolutely no control over and therefore no chance of improving on.
We are where we are: in the middle of the Great Karoo. We love the fact that we are remote and also trust that when guests make a decision to visit Rogge Cloof, they understand where we are; that the remoteness of our location is part of what they find alluring and which ultimately will leave them feeling invigorated at the end of their visit, having experienced the remote location as 'truly peaceful', as you describe it...
Our unique remote location and special attention to and focus on guests, are (in our humble opinion), why we receive multiple positive reviews and guests returning to visit Rogge Cloof again and again.
Kind Regards, Rogge Cloof Team
