We did both tours, the first of the SALT telescope, this is the day time tour, and was really good, this is the biggest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere with a mirror diameter of 30 meters, you would need to go a long way to see better - if this is possible.
The second tour is the evening tour where you get to look through a 12" and a 14" reflector telescopes, on the one hand, we were lucky to have the Moon, Mars and Saturn visible, on the other hand the images were not as spectacular as I thought they would be, Magnification could have been higher, and image clearer

Really worth going to see the telescope and doing the tour. It was very interesting. It was extremely windy when we went up but never the less we learn so much.

We joined a tour in the morning and initially we were taken through various rooms in the visitors centre to familiarise ourselves with planets etc and the telescope itself, followed by a video. Then on to the area where there are a lot of telescopes used and owned by different countries. We visited one and then into SALT itself which is huge!

Do the long tour, as all will be explained to you. Otherwise you don't really get the best information in the Museum.
