We had a one night stay during a glorious June day. Axbridge is a delight and has a continental feel with the central town square. We didn't venture far from Axbridge though there are plenty of places of interest for all tastes nearby and Bristol. There are useful and interesting shops on the square and nearby. There is free parking about 3 minutes away from the hotel.
The Oak House Restuarant with Rooms was lovely and something of a warren which made it all the more interesting. The room (No. 6) was delightful with all the facilities that you could possibly need. The bed was very comfortable with lovely sheets and the room spacious. A nice touch was the homemade shortbread biscuits and cafetere coffee in the room with plentiful supplies of instant coffee and tea. The bathroom was ideal and had lots of bathroom supplies and a rubber duck. A TV was in the room. Nice pictures on the wall and nice decor.
The staff were all polite, courteous and exteremely helpful, they even provided an ice bucket and ice for champagne we had brought with us!
Unfortunately we did not have the time to eat at the restaurant but it looked really good and we plan to do it in the near future. The bar was great fun and had a supply of locally made gins and I can recommend the horseradish gin with freshly crushed basil and the burnt orange gin with thyme. The barman was particularly helpful.
We plan to return in the near future and wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this place.

Room Tip: In the summer the rooms at the front overlooking the square may be a little noisy for some because of the al fresco nature of the square.

After travelling down to Axbridge from Birmingham we decided to visit the square on Axbridge day to have a few drinks and a good time. The weather wasn’t great so we decided to head in to The Oak House and have some drinks and lunch in there.
When we first walked in it was really quiet so we ordered some drinks and sat down to have a look at the menu.
We all ordered our food which came out fairly quickly and was enjoyable.
We had more drinks and sat around chatting and enjoyed people watching outside.
Around 8pm after spending quite a lot of money on drinks/coffees and lunch we decided to call a taxi to head back to Cheddar Woods resorts where we were staying. The taxi driver told us he would be around 20-30 mins so we decided to have 1 more drink while we waited. The bar was a bit busier at this point so my nephew waited patiently to be served. After serving everyone “The manager” (I think his name is Mark) walked passed my nephew and served someone who had just got to the bar. My nephew light heartedly said “ do you not feel like serving me? “ to which he replied “ well not now after that “ he then said he was barred and threatened to call the police!
Another guy standing at the bar obviously agreed that the manager was an absolute moron and offered to buy him a drink.
We forgot the drink and left to get our taxi who asked where we had been. We told him the story and he said “ I’ve heard about him, he’s always known for banning people. He banned a family who complained about the cold food!”
After this experience we would not return here and wouldn’t recommend it either. To be treated that way after spending a lot of money is a joke. TERRIBLE customer service.

Great location and lovely-ish room - the most wonderfully comfy bed (also home-made biscuits provided were delicious) but bathroom needed a tiny bit of TLC. Supper good, but restaurant very quiet, so no real ambience. Didn't experience breakfast.

We stayed at The Oak House for one night as many of the other reviewers, on the Travelzoo offer and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and without hesitation would recommend it, whether or not it's on offer. The Oak House is a tastefully renovated facing onto the nice small square in the centre of Axbridge a lovely small town with many old buildings (as is The Oak House). On arrival the check in was quick but a friendly member of staff and we were given room 8, a large well decorated room facing on to an internal yard. flat room. The bedroom was equipped with a flatscreen TV, high speed Wi-Fi, wardrobe, small settee and coffee table. The décor was in keeping with the rest of the hotel and there was a large double bed and although a little soft we had a good night sleep. The room had a smallish en-suite equipped with a shower in bath. A nice touch was tea/coffee making facilities which was taken to a higher level with fresh ground coffee and cafetiere. All in all we were more than happy with the room particularly as it fitted nicely with the rest of the hotel which was clearly thought through in presentation. Our offer included dinner which was served in the designated dining area, also thoughtfully designed. What was apparent was the professionalism of the staff, inviting us to take drinks as we browsed the menu, it sounds a bit highbrow, but a nice touch. Now for the highlight, the dining experience was superb with high quality food served by the excellent professional and friendly Amelia, accompanied by a good choice of reasonable priced wines. We each had different dishes and all were to the same standard in respect of presentation and taste. Next to the dining area is the bar which although we didn't use, however it looked cosy and again well decorated. In addition to Amelia the manager (name not known) was also friendly and professional. Breakfast was included, again taken in the dining area and in keeping with the dinner was well presented with good quality ingredients, from cereals to a choice of hot breakfasts. The slight issue is the parking, which is not as we were advised in Moorland Street but Meadow Street, a public car park 3-4 walk away with free parking up to 48 hrs. There is parking up to 1 hr in the square so loading and unloading isn't a problem. In summary, The Oak House is a great choice for a short break, a quaint hotel with excellent professional staff and superb food! Thoroughly recommended!

We selected Oak House on the basis it was dog friendly and in Somerset where we were to meet up with friends. It seemed to have good reviews. Not surprised at all it had such good reviews. We had a lovely room overlooking the market square. Breakfast was nice and though we didn't try the restaurant it looked good. There was an excellent selection of beers in the bar. Everyone in the hotel was friendly and very helpful. I would recommend and we may well be back!
