My wife and I had a disastrous stay at the 'Cerritos Surf CON'oly', but stopped by and chatted with Hymie the owner of this quirky little surf camp. What a nice guy! Although we didn't want to stay at his camp as we were looking for something a bit more 5star to make up for our disappointment with the Cerritos Surf CON'oly, we could both see why the Pescadero Surf Camp is such a great stop for surfers and campers from across the Globe. OK it's not right on the beach, it's a good 25 to 30 minute walk, or a short drive from the surf camp, but the ambiance and laid back atmosphere of Hymie's compound makes it worth it.

Hymie has priced it just right, you can stay in a little palapa unit, a house, a studio room, or just pitch your tent for a very minimal fee. You can even just pay for a shower if you're camping your way down the Baja.

There's a cute little open community kitchen in front of a very nice pool. When we stopped by and Hymie's son was showing us around, the surfers cooking their supper invited us to join them. A few beers and fresh fish tacos later we shook hands and went on our way.

If you're on a budget, and you don't mind roughing it while surrounded by likeminded people, I can't think of a better place to stay.

My wife and I promised ourselves if we ever go back to that area we will drive down rather than fly, stay at Hymie's surf camp and get him or his son Ryan to teach us how to surf. Hymie surfs most days, and is one of the most friendly and accommodating guys in Pescadero/Cerritos BCS.

Surf camp was perfect for our group. We rented the camp house, beach house and a palapa here. I'd thought some of us would also camp here but that didn't look so good since camping here is simply setting up a tent on any place on the grounds where a tent fits. ( You'd have to be a deep sleeper to do that here since there's a rooster farm within ear-shot of Surf Camp.) Staying in the camp house was both quiet and comfortable.

The swimming pool area is kept clean and the shaded palapa and swim-up bar was a great place to hang-out after several hours on the beach.

Some things that are a bit surprising about surf camp: it's a 5-minute drive to the beach, not walking distance; it's surprisingly quiet and not the "party" atmosphere some might expect at a place named "surf camp".

The owner rented us surf boards for $20-per-board-per day and we all managed to get on our feet on the board and nearby Cerritos Beach. Great fun!

Rates here are the best around starting at $10 to camp to $85 for the camp house that can sleep several and has a private bathroom and kitchen, The palapas have access to the outdoor kitchen and showers and cost only $4.

This is the best place to go for anyone on a budget.

I will try to cut through a lot of the other information and reviews that have been posted on this site.
Pescadero Surf Camp is located at the very end of the little mexican town El Pescadero.

El Pescadero is a friendly, dusty, calm place with the only thing opening at night being the really cozy taco stands. The closest bars are the expat bars along the highway that passes by town.
There is really nothing going on in El Pescadero town - just having that said.
The town is a few hundred yards/meters inland, but strategically located between a few very nice beaches along the coast. The whole area is very pedestrian unfriendly, with loooong distances everywhere. You need a car. Let me say that again: You need a car.
I was at the surf camp to surf, and luckily I met a bunch of people with cars so I also had a ride. However, your own car gives you your own freedom. Be aware.
Playa Cerritos is the closest beach, a beach long as eyes can see and nonetheless beautiful.
Fits both surfers and everyone else.

As for the camp, the best part of it was definately the people who run it. Jaime, the most chilled expat I ever met, runs it together with some cool mexicans and his son is also involved. All very nice people. Being the only hostel-like accomodation anywhere in the whole Todos Santos-Pescadero area, the prices for rooms are a bit high being in Mexico. Think $30 per person. However, Jaime also lets you camp there, with your own tent, for $10.
The vibe is super mellow, but down expect any huge parties running down every night.
You meet alot of nice people, and thats all there is to it. A perfect place to chill out, and you have the beach close by. Beware, this is the desert so it gets cold at night.
Todos Santos is about 10 minutes away with a car, and you cannot walk there. Along the highway is nothing special, a few bars and restaurants, but really not that much. El Pescadero, like I mentioned, is a sleepy town. Todos Santos is the closest place for some night (and day) action, sprouting lots of artsy stores, bars and cosy streets. Nice place for a day (and night) trip.

I had a great time, and the surf possibilities are awesome, and you can rent whatever you need from Jaime.

Yes there is wifi and yes it works pretty well.

if you want fun and adventure and some challenge in trying to figure out how to get by, come to this place. the surf camp itself, it's rustic highly advisable to get the rooms way in advance. if you have a tent and sleeping pad is a must, that is workable. the biggest thing is the toilets, they only flush solid human waste no toilet paper, the toilet paper goes in the waste basket (therefore some parts of the camp smell bad. the showers and pool are clean. the community kitchen is amazing cool. The english speaking hotel owner is sometimes hard to get a hold of, so ask questions when you have the opportunity. Bring enough us dollars or pesos, no credit card. Be outgoing towards other travelers, interesting people. About the area, loads to do and beautiful place. The town of pescadero is completely safe and has several stores to get water, groceries, and eat out, all walkable. Advise you stay for a several days or more in order to experience it all. Lots of stunning beaches and dirt roads to explore, and mountains to scale. Explore all the beaches not just cerritos. If bus traveler, take bus from pescradero to todos santos and maybe even la paz

My girlfriend and I stayed here on our way North up Baja. Located on Highway 19 it is an easy drive from Cabo or La Paz. Jaime the owner was helpful, but hard to track down. If you have a car it's a short drive to Cerritos and some other breaks in the area. If you don't have a car be prepared to hitch a ride to the beach. They do have boards but the pickings are slim, mostly long boards. The grounds were pretty clean however the communal kitchen was a real mess. The room we stayed in had a fan but no AC. It was clean but smelled like the monkey house at the zoo. We put a towel over the drain in the shower and that helped a little. Surprisingly the rooms had no keys to lock the doors or a lock box to put valuables in ???? I've stayed in a lot of surf camps and that came as a shock. I guess lock it or lose it goes out the window.
