First visit to The Oak for Mothering Sunday, the food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and the surroundings were very pleasant. A lovely drive through the countryside. Very enjoyable indeed.

Saturday lunch with three generations of our family aged from 4 to 70 and everyone was happy. We were given both the lunch and the evening menus to choose from and the children were offered chicken goujons (NB. NOT chicken nuggets) and fish pie. When the fish pie was going to take 20 mins for the youngest, she was given homemade bread and butter to nibble in the meantime, but big bro was happy to share his yummy chicken with her too. Foodie son and his vegetarian wife thoroughly enjoyed their salmon and smoked pannacotta (a new one on all of us) starters, belly pork and black bomber souffle were delicious and my lamb rump - beautifully cooked - came with a powerful gravy and wonderfully flavoured vegetables. I have written about The Oak's unmissable chocolate fondant before, but little grand-daughter was thrilled when her vanilla ice-cream came with a pretty pattern of dots of fruit purees in "all my favourite colours" all of which were licked up with her fingers. Thank you for giving us such a lovely family experience.

Went on Sunday for family 70th Birthday- it was absolutely amazing - haven’t had such good food anywhere for ages!
A family of foodies and no one could find any fault! And such good value for money!
Will definitely return!

Went here will 4 friends - booked 2 hours before hand as a last minute thing and they squeezed us in no problem.

Everything was perfect, we shared out 4 starters and then the mains were mouth watering

I would remoned the octopus for starter and the pigeon for main, everything went perfect together

4 people eating and lots of drinks, everyone had 2 or 3 wine or beer each £50 each, really impressed with the value for such a good meal, was worth every penny

will be returning

We came here as a table of five for a Sunday lunch with high expectations after reading other reviews. One member of our table was a fine dining chef and upon looking at the menu was excited, especially the starters. To outer surprise we received some beautiful bread flavoured with fennel we believe with black garlic butter( which was out of this world. Two people had the pigeon with kale black pudding crumb and Lardo. The pigeon was beautifully cooked and well seasoned however neither were sure what the black pudding crumble offered, two people had the smoked trout and loved it but thought the beetroot and peppercorn crisp had no flavour. And finally one person had the octopus which they couldn’t fault anything with. That was a winner! On to mains. Thee had the beef, beautifully cooked and rested however was very luke warm partly because the plates weren’t that warm. The other two had the pheasant (beautifully cooked) and the lamb also nicely cooked and flavourful. A few people on the table thought mustard and mint sauce should have been placed on the table without having to ask for them but that’s just an opinion not shared by all. Beg and roast potatoes were all lovely but the gravy and purée as were phenomenal!! Now we waited along time from finishing our mains to them being cleared, receiving desserts menus, ordering and receiving them. Spiced apple panna cotta was delicious. As was the cherry parfait all though there was a debate wether that was seasonal at this time of year ( nice non the less) and an impressive local cheese board. Service was a bit slow and this could easily be a 5 star review with just little changes but nice non the less and I would return. Nice to support a privately run pub not owned by a brewery, with obviously passionate chefs!!
