Our team reunion at Burythorpe House was just perfect.
Check in was easy and we were led to our room which was spacious with beautiful views over the garden & countryside beyond.
After pre dinner drinks in the lounge we went through to the restaurant and were delighted to discover the Hotel Manager had given us a Private Dining room - we could be as loud and jovial as we wanted without disturbing any other guests - nice move Burythorpe
The food, service and staff were excellent.
Big shout out to the trainees.
After dinner we returned to the lounge for coffee and more drinks.
We chatted with some other residents in the lounge and we all agreed we’d enjoyed our visit. Theres a real relaxed atmosphere here, not at all stuffy.
Go on treat yourself !

Room tip: Location is in the countryside so there’s no street lighting or paths.

I just had my birthday luncheon here with family and friends, about 30 people including children. It was absolutely perfect, attentive friendly staff, lovely space as we had the sitting room and adjoining dining room for sole use, The food was great and very reasonably priced. My grandchildren were made to feel very welcome and loved playing in the gardens. I cannot fault anything about our day and highly recommend Burythorpe House to anyone .

After a four hour drive encountering, snow, ice and freezing fog, we arrived around 5pm to find we were the only guests in the hotel, dinner had been pre booked, and we were informed that a member of staff had been trying to contact us, to let us know their chef had to leave earlier.
We were shown to a room that we hadn’t booked, unfortunately the heating hadn't been turned on, so we sat in an empty lounge for two hours whilst it warmed up. As there was no chef available, we were offered either a takeaway, or soup and sandwiches, not what we’d expected but made the best of it.

We were booked in for two nights and the room was nice with great views of the grounds and surrounding area, however the bed wasn’t made the following morning, and the toiletries weren’t topped up or replaced.
Breakfast was good and dinner the following evening was delicious, staff need to be more professional, and spend more time dealing with their guests than chattering in the kitchen.

Thank you for taking the time to review the house after your recent stay, we always welcome feedback from our guests.
To clarify, you booked a premier room via a third party agent which does not allow you to select individual rooms. On arrival you requested a specific room on the second floor of the house which had been unoccupied for several days hence why it was cold as old houses often are throughout the winter months. We immediately boosted the heating and explained it would take a while for the room to come to temperature.
As you state the weather was awful and the freezing fog and snow you mention is why the hotel was so quiet, as we are a rural hotel and our staff are very important to us we did indeed allow our chef to leave early as some points on his journey had been classified as treacherous.
He retuned to work the following day , even though the weather conditions were still challenging to ensure you didn't experience any further disappointment.
I fully take your comments on board re : the housekeeping and have raised your comments with our Head Housekeeper.
In regards to the staff chatting in the kitchen, , we are a small but happy team who always put the needs of the guest first. I know with certainty that, despite having time to chat with their colleagues, if guests require their attention they wouldn't have hesitated to be their.

With Kindest Regards

We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff for putting on a wonderfully delicious spread for our family to celebrate a big birthday. The place was warm, cosy and festive. Everyone was so accommodating and considerate and we couldn’t have found a better place to be. We will definitely be back again.

A lovely overnight stay with a group of friends. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Everyone got a good night’s sleep in clean, comfortable rooms. Breakfast was excellent - everything served individually to the table and cooked to perfection. And the whole hotel was cosy and warm. Stayed as a couple here twice before over last few years and I feel it has kept up it’s standard as a charming, well run country house hotel. Will definitely be back.
