After reading great reviews, we decided to try this for lunch. On a lovely fall day, we were happy to see they were still open for lunch and serving outdoors. Most restaurants in this small paese consisting of Arrone, Ferentillo, Montefranco, Monterivoso, fraziones of Terni in Umbria, serve vino alla casa (wine of the house) at very reasonable prices. 3-6E per 1/2-1 liter and it is excellent. Even the upscale restaurants offer this. But not here-we had to order a 1/2 bottle of some cheap, lousy wine at 7E.
I ordered gnocchi (reasonably priced at 9E). They were obviously store bought-hard like bullets. The salad was also obviously from a bag with store bought terrible tomatoes. Hubby ordered polenta with truffles. Polenta was also store bought. 4 thin perfectly shaped slices. He enjoyed the truffles. My thoughts are that since this is also a B and B, they stay open for lunch/dinner since they need to be there. Very disappointed. Try DaRema, Piermarini, baccifeminelle, LaMola.

We return to La Locanda Ristorante every year when we come to Umbria and our little slice of paradise, the tiny town of Arrone. Their food is consistently good and we are always welcomed warmly by Silvio and son Gabriele.

This year I brought 10 Culinary Adventurers to my favorite area ristoranti and La Locando was a definite 'must do.' Amid a variety of delicious pasta dishes... laddened with truffles or porcini... La Locanda offers a Ravioli of Nettles that is amazing. But my favorite pasta dish is their Pappardelle Cinghale Rosso. The best Cinghale Rosso in southern Umbria with its hints of juniper and rosemary... this dish takes red sauce to a new level!

Other don't miss dishes: A soft baked but still runny egg drenched in truffle with toasted bread for dipping... delicate, unctuous, sublime. And save room for the wood roasted Veal Chop with Rosemary and Lemon... tender Chianina (white) veal served on the bone with roasted potatoes that are so perfectly crisp on the outside they belie their tender, fluffy centers. For dessert ask Gabriele to make his special drink of Prosecco, Lemon Sorbetto, Limoncello and Vodka... a refreshing end to any delicious meal at La Locanda!

The Fiocchi's also offer an agriturismo with pool for travelers headed to rafting and other outdoor adventures in the Valnerina.
