So, I had a very difficult and emotional event to organise on 22 October 2017. My daughter passed away when she was 8 and that date would have marked her 16th birthday. I wanted to honour her in a fundraiser party as she always helped others. The events team were not only sensitive to the event on hand but unbelievably professional and meticulous with every detail. The venue looked incredible, the staff were outstanding, the food and drink was delicious (as mentioned by everyone there) creating the perfect tribute to my beautiful daughter. I would use the venue again in a heartbeat. We’ve eaten countless Sunday lunches in the Oak Room and loved it, each time noticing the function rooms and wanting to have a party there. Thank you to the events team and all the staff for making everything moment a memory my family and friends will treasure forever.

We met some friends for Sunday lunch. 4 adults and four kids - aged 8 and 5 years. The location is fantastic - right on the edge of the forest so the kids could go into the woods a little a play in the dens. There is also a climbing frame in the pub garden which was really good, although one slide was unusable due to the pond/mudpit at the bottom of it. (This could be rectified with a bag of sand and some playbark)

Other than the location this pub has little going for it. The Sunday roast at £15 per head was and not good value for money. The service was without a smile or any inkling of customer service. They couldn't take your plates away fast enough - some people may not mind this but IMO the whole party (or a at least the adults/children) should be allowed to finish their meal before a table is cleared, particularly if clearing the plates means leaning over people who are still eating!
Please note that for every card transaction under £20 they add a £1 fee - it's just what they do apparently! This is a massive rip off if you've popped in for a couple of drinks and I'm not even sure if it is legal!

Visited here after exploring High Beach and Epping Forest on a windy Sunday afternoon. On entering the pub, it looks like a proper olde world boozer - old wooden furniture, low ceiling and a packed bar area. We were then taken through to a quieter restaurant area, which was more akin to a fine dining experience. The service was fast and friendly and we both ordered the roast beef, which came very quickly after ordering, no long waiting.

Served with roast spuds, parsnip, carrots, cauliflower cheese, a yorkshire pudding and some of the nicest cooked beef I've had in a pub for a long time as well as some very nice gravy (we even asked for more!). A large serving and all absolutely delicious, giving very good value for money at £14.95.

We just about had room to share a desert so ordered the apple and blackcurrant crumble with hot custard - absolutely delicious again! Will definitely be returning.

Me and my husband held our wedding reception at the kings oak 2 weeks ago. We had the kings room which is such an amazing room and decorated beautifully for you. So much effort is put in by the staff to make sure everything is perfect. The food was excellent quality, all the 60+ guests loved everything that was served from the canapés to the sit down menu and evening platters. They were very impressed which was lovely for us to hear. The staff laid out the table plan perfectly and all the tables looked amazing. The chocolate fountain is great and was a massive hit with everyone. Everything was very well organised and honestly the whole evening was perfect there is nothing we would of changed and I'm so pleased I chose to hold our wedding reception there. The whole venue is well presented and the surroundings were lovely for us to have photos because of the view and the lights in the evening. I would like to say a special thank you to Skye who was truly lovely the whole way through with all the planning and organising of the day to making sure everything was perfect and on point, she just went above and beyond! Anyone considering using this venue for any event I can't recommend it enough as they made sure our day was just totally brilliant. Next big event we have we know where we'll be holding it.
