We had a meeting in one of the banquet halls of this Sandman and everything went great especially with Guillaume and the rest of the crew except for 1 person who shouldn't be working in the service industry: a certain Brintney. Not only I saw and experienced it but many of our employees did and reported it to me. She was rough, aggressive, rude and unprofessional in every way for no reason. I'm sure it's no fault of the hotel since the banquets are independent from them but I couldn't find anywhere else to express my frustration and our employees frustrations than here.

I attended two days worth of meetings at the hotel. Check I was fast and courteous, and day one of the meetings was great. Everything went as expected.
One of our counterparts found empty drink bottles around his bed when he checked in. My room had issues with the heat. Turns out, as near as I can figure, the thermostat on the wall is for looks only. After a sleepless, hot night,I discovered there was also a temperature control on the wall heat unit that controlled the temp. That worked much better.
On day two of the meetings, the mid mornings energy break was bags of chips that had expired 2 years before. The expired date was 2016.
An ice machine down the wing that they gave us the hospitality suite in didn’t work. 7 metres from the sign that sent me to an end of a hall to find the non functioning machine, there was another ice machine that worked. But you have to look for it.
It was almost like the corridor where the makeshift hostility suites was in was like the forgotten brother of the rest of the hotel. It was very slummy and dirty feeling. Yet they send people down that way to dine at Denny’s.

Having such a negative experience here that I opened a Trip Advisor account just to spread the word. Photos say it all. And the staff has no idea how to improve the experience. Asked to change rooms when the first one looked like this and they gave us the room next door. Same issues with dampness and mildew. My kids love the water slide here and we’ve come for years but we won’t be back.

Unfortunately our experience was not good. Don't rely on the shuttle, we ended up taking a taxi from the airport as we had waited over 40 minutes and then couldn't get on the shuttle as it was full. Our taxi was faster than the shuttle anyways.

Our room was terribly presented and we ended up having to vacuum our own room as we wouldn't let our children take their shoes off. I'm sure there must be better rooms, we just ended up with the worst room. I did ask to see another room and it was not much better. The walls were dirty, terribly maintained, the bathroom was falling apart and the tap on the shower wouldn't stay in the one spot. So the shower was either really hot or super cold. The mold in the bathroom along with the dirty light switch was disgusting.

On the positive the check out staff were lovely and after seeing our photos of the room they did give us a discount. We were really disappointed as after travelling for almost 20 hours with two young children this was not how we thought we'd end our trip. My husband has stayed in Sandman Signature hotels for business before and has never come across a room like the one we had.

Room Tip: Ask if your room has been updated

PEOPLE, A Warning ! DO NOT count on getting a Shuttle at the time you request. We have used this Hotel near YVR before and after each of our trips in the past 2 years. IN EVERY CASE there have been travellers refused transportation on the 6 AM shuttle, Regardless if you have a Sandman Shuttle voucher or not. They will take Airline staff before you do, and you are forced to wait 30 minutes for the next scheduled shuttle or pay a $20 cab fare. This happened last night as well, as we were leaving YVR after a very long travel day, a WestJet crew showed up at the last second, and they got shuttle priority, so we waited for the next shuttle, which was also filled to capacity. Some hotel guests were forced to wait yet another round, or take a Cab. The Hotel is nothing special, just a place to stay, but IF you're using the Hotel for a convenient place near YVR, be aware of the downfalls of their "complimentary" shuttle service, and plan your time accordingly. I'm not sure that I'll go back there ever again, but If I do, I will leave myself time to find alternate means of reaching our AM check-in in adequate time.

Dear Don M,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know of the challenges you faced with our complimentary shuttle. We appreciate your staying with us over the past two years and would like to see you return. We welcome any comments and suggestions on how we can improve.
We have a complimentary shuttle running every 15 minutes in the morning so we can attend to all guest’s transportation needs. The shuttle runs can at times be affected by the priority given to airline crew, however, we try our best to ensure that everyone is catered to and no one is left behind.
Once again, thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,
Edwin J
