“Hooray, the tea room in Jordan is open again!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2012

We're thrilled to see that another tea room has opened once again in that stunning home on Main St. in Jordan, Ont. This time the owner/chef is from England and the menu is as authentic as expected. A great place to stop in for a light lunch or afternoon tea in a peaceful setting with old world charm. We only had time for freshly baked-to-order scones and tea this time, but plan to go back and try the full Afternoon Tea and lunch items. The British imports gift shop on the side is an added feature with lovely items! I've already e-mailed 30+ friends to spread the word!

“Lovely lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2012 via mobile

A friend and I visited Crown & Crumpet for a 'girls lunch'. They had just opened for the day so it was quiet and we had our choice of tables. Service was quick, polite and not intrusive. Nice layout with one room turned into a small English goods shoppe and a large room as the dining room.

We shared the soup of the day (carrot & coriander), quiche of the day (cheese & asparagus) and a mixed green salad.

Soup was delicious. Not sure if it was homemade, but it sure tasted like it. Mixed salad was a good portion, with tomatoes and blueberries and drizzled lightly with dressing. The quiche was also a good portion and tasted great. My only disappointment was that the quiche was warm OR cold, depending on where you ate from. I'm fine with cold quiche, and I'm fine with warm/hot quiche...but the mixture of temps had me focusing more on the temperature and less on the taste.

We each had tea and shared the 2 scone plate for dessert. Enjoyed the touch of getting to select our own tea cups. Why does a pretty, personally selected cup always make tea taste better? Total cost was $36, very reasonable in our opinion. Would return.

Suggestions to owner: De-clutter the outside of the main entry area (many random plant pots all over), replace burnt out lightbulbs in dining area lights.

“Fabulous Spot - Excellent Food - Charming Hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2012

We stumbled upon this Tea house by accident. We were in town for the local art event and the vendors in town were displaying their products at nicely set up street stalls. And of course, curious at the extremely appetizing looking food, and the friendly and helpful hosts, we decided to step inside, have a look and try out some of their food. The food was in a word delicious and the tea house has a very comfortable feel to it. Prices are good, great value. We inquired to the owner as I didn't remember seeing the tea house before and found that the owners are new to the area, just 3 months. The tea house is also their home. They are from Britain where they also owned a tea house, so expect very authentic cuisine, in true British style. In addition to the great food, they have some wonderful stories and very interesting ties to the British Royals, their daughter went to school with Beatrice and Andrew frequented one of the events they frequented. That said they are very unpretentious, down to earth, greet you with a smile. Their charming young son who was helping man the street stall, was very knowledgeable, professional, fun and friendly. The food we tasted, scones, desserts was so very good, made from scratch with very good ingredients. The flavors and textures were lovely, everything very fresh, the scones straight from the oven and we really enjoyed the food and experience. Service is excellent, not intrusive, very relaxing; a wonderful mix of friendly and professional. We are going back very soon to do a full high tea complete with fancy sandwiches, scones and desserts and to hear about their roots and experiences from Britain. They also have a lovely little store on the premises selling a variety of foods - condiments they make, such as lemon curd, jams, etc as well they also draw from local vendors & those from abroad, so a very interesting mix of products.. Lovely ambience, food and great hosts. A very welcome addition to the area. http://www.thecrownandcrumpet.com/The_Crown_and_Crumpet_Tea_House/Welcome.html

“DISAPPOINTED”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2012

We visited the tearoom today. The food was very good although we felt overpriced. We did find the room noisy and the children very distracting. The little girl, although adorable, was interrupting our conversations and reaching in find of us and asking for the dishes. We tried to be nice and ask her to wait until we were ready to leave, but it did no good. The children were drawing at a table and showing their work to customers. We are seniors, have had our children, and now enjoy our grandchildren, but when we go out for high tea we expect to be able to relax and chat without children interrupting. We did express our concerns to the owner and hopefully she will give them some consideration. This is not a relaxing place to spend your afternoon with friends.

Having given these opinions we do wish the tearoom much success. We realize this is a new business and it does take time to iron out all the issues.
