I might be slightly biased, but I love this place and all the people (residents and guests) that I have encountered on my stays here.

Expectations are everything. Check a place out before you commit to going. If you're looking for mints on your pillows and a bell boy to take your bags to your room this isn't the place for you.
If you want great fishing, incredible hikes on easy trails, fresh air, good swimming (in the river or down the road at the beach), friendly and welcoming people, Bon fires where everyone is welcome to join then this is the place for you!
Outdoor washroom facilities are not my favourite, but I understand this going in and make compromise for everything else I do enjoy about the more rustic atmosphere.

Kid friendly
Pet friendly
Fun friendly

Can wait to get back!! Maybe I'll meet you there :)

Rustic means old. Cottage was clean but the furnishing were very old and falling apart.
There is no means to secure the cottage with a key. At one point the neighbour walked in without warning. The privy (outside) is ancient - no means of door control and very close to the cottage.
Dogs are welcome - no control as they run loose. No outside chairs/table or fireplace at the cottage. View of the river was obstructed with overgrown bush.

If you're looking for an adult fishing spot - it might suit you. The river is beautiful.

Owner invited our son to "Snip Hunting" - WOW!

I fell in love with Silgrey Rustic Resort BEFORE it was Silgrey....that was years ago.
It's a natural spawning place for pickeral during the months of April and ending mid May, on the rapids. The York River leads into the Conroy Marsh and what a wonderful fishing place for small and large mouth bass, pike and more.
One year we were lucky enough to anchor over a catfish hole and boy, did we have fun....one after another!!!!! What a feast we had.
All the cabins have been remodelled by Mike and Wanda. Still have no running water but that's part of the "rustic" life. Hot and cold running water in the shower house.
My favourite cabin in No. 6 at the top of the hill, overlooking the river. Outhouse is right out back.
Each place comes with a BBQ. Bring your own bedding, etc. Dishes, pots, pans, etc. supplied.
Boat rental available. Haven't been there in a while but I couldn't choose that date. The way those two work, I can only manage lots of improvements.
PET FRIENDLY.

Room tip: Every cabin here has it's good points. You can be close to the rapids and hear them at night or you can be up top by No. 6 or 7 and have a wonderful view of the York River and docking facilities.

I have been staying at this camp for over 15 years . I have watched the place change ownership three different times. The Silgrey Resort is a wonderful getaway into the Canadian Wilderness. Mike and Wanda do an excellent job of making you feel right at home while you are there. The cottages and the camp have never been in better shape than they are now !! You will not find a better cottage to stay in anywhere in that area !! The York River and the Conroy Marsh are beautiful and have some of the best fishing in Ontario. I recommend that you stay here whenever you come to Bancroft or Boulter Ontario .

We have just returned from Silgrey and had a most wonderful time there. The cabins do not have running water, but that was not a surprise as we knew other people who had been there previously. The setting was beautiful and the hosts were very accommodating. We changed cabins in the middle of our stay, because friends decided to join us and there was no extra charge or problems. We were there as a group with numerous children who did not ever complain about being bored and there were canoes and a peddle boat, as well as the swimming from the dock, fishing and a campfire in the evening. We will return in the fall to spend another week and hike on the trails that in the summer are too full of mosquitoes to be passable.
