It was another wet weekend at the annual Chum Derby. Fun was had by all even though the fish were not biting as hard as last year. We look forward to attend this yearly event just for the hospitality of the staff and of course Brent too. The campground has one of the most enjoyable scenery overlooking the bay just above the Narrows. This place is a must to visit any time of the year !!

The resort is 19k north of Campbell River and is reached by a rough road off the HWY 19 main road. It has a RV Campground, cabins, glamping tents and marina floating suites.
Our stay was in one of the two (new in 2016) Marina Floating Suites which faced the ocean. The view is beautiful on a clear day. The new rooms are situated by the side of the restaurant.
The bedroom is rustic with no window. The sitting area plus kitchenette has a very high ceiling and large windows plus sliding door which leads on to a balcony. The kitchen is very well equipped.
Although there was wifi there was no cell phone coverage.
There is a club house, hot tub, fitness room, laundry facility and playground in the main camping area which is situated away from the marina suites.

Room Tip: The ocean view suite has what is says an ocean view.

This is a beautiful area, with views of the ocean. Services are highly efficient and there are several extras like hot tub and greenhouse and clubhouse. However if you want any privacy at all this is not the place to come. It is like camping in a parking lot.

As the result of numerous mechanical breakdowns and bad luck we found ourselves arriving late at the marina/resort when the starter failed on the truck ... stuck in Brown's Bay with the boat still on the trailer (could think of far worse places for that to happen, tho'). The staff and even other guest were all extremely helpful; they launched our boat, Barb extended our stay until the truck could be fixed and all were so friendly that it turned, what could have been, a terrible weekend into a fantastic long weekend! We stayed in the Nautical Suite; it is a well appointed "hotel room" style with everything a couple could need in the full kitchen, has a comfortable bed and is quiet at night. All the staff were super! Barb and Neil run one hell of a show and every one of their staff (resort and marina) had brought their "A" game to work each and every day. Highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Poor cell service - put a few dollars on your Skype account so you can call on WiFi.

We have heard a lot of great things about the restaurant and looking on line, we wanted to check this place out. It was nothing like what we had expected. The restaurant is like a run down family restaurant. It did have a good view and was floating and in an amazing location, which was great but definately not what we expected indoors
We waited at least 10 minutes before someone came to our table and there was only one other table in the restaurant
Once we were waited on, the server was not friendly and not very attentive.
The food though--was amazing.
But unfortunately the service for us outweighed the food, so will more than likely not return
