Fancied tea and a snack and we were passing on the way back from the 'castle' so popped in. Had to move the pot plants on the step to get the pram in! Inside was nice but we didn't see or hear from the staff until she poked her head around the kitchen door to say very abruptly 'do you know what you want?' - we did but that proved too much of a problem for her. My son fancied 2 flavours of ice cream but he was told it 'one or the other' because we know how challenging it is to empty 2 little boxes of ice cream into one bowl!
She basically lost a sale of 4 ice creams because she couldn't think to put 2 flavours in one bowl.
When she did serve us it was in silence and she all but threw the food at us.
She didn't speak to us at all except to tell us the price when we went to leave.
Don't bother unless you love creamy ice cream so much you're willing to put up with ignorant people.

I can only comment on the cafe, which is a few hundred metres only from the church. We had scrambled eggs and ham on brown toast. Price was very fair. Service was quite quick and fine. Considering it was winter, the cafe was busy and popular with locals. If visiting the church it is a perfect place to eat - simple and not expensive. We did not go into the deli shop.

Room tip: Cannot comment as we only used the cafe.

Despite advising the owners of our arrival time we could not gain access as we had arrived on a Tuesday, which apparently is their closed day. With no hint of an apology for keeping us on the pavement, two hours later we were unpacking in freezing conditions. The weather had turned unseasonally cold but the heating was not on. Treacherous stairs have to be negotiated once you have navigated the kitchen and preparation areas. Health, Safety and Hygiene issues were in my mind. My single room was uncomfortable with the wrong details. Plenty of Country Life magazines and Christies catalogues to read but very little in the way of creature comforts to the point of being Spartan. All the 'Antique' furniture was in poor shape and unsympathetic modernisations had long since ruined any old world charm.
The owners offered everything 'begrudgingly' which made me feel like an unwelcome intruder.
Mid stay we thought the purchase of an afternoon tea would help the prevailing atmosphere. Sadly the £13 charged for two pots of Tea and two mini Quiche was outrageous!
Despite agreeing with Mrs. Beard a tariff of £25 per night which is the current advertised rate, at check out time Mr Beard asked for £30 per night, which he did not get.
With a warm welcome and some sociable chit chat with the occasional smile, this could be a charming B & B. However as it stands, wild horses would not drag me back.
I fully appreciate that £25 a night is not a lot of money, but even at this low rate the prevailing attitude of the owners stripped out any possible value for money.

Hidden down a side street in a place called Eye in Suffolk you will find this small deli and cafe next door. Whilst well stocked and usefull, the owners appear to think they are doing us a favour in opening this business as opposed to welcoming you warmly into their shop.
The cafe is lacking in atmosphere and warmth and the shop is clustered and officious if you know what we mean.
Suggest avoid the main car park in Eye as the smell from the chicken factory next door will have you gagging for breath - disgusting - therefore avoid Eye altogether and head for a better cafe in Diss such as the Angel cafe on Fair Green where you will get a very warm welcome.
