Kimberley Riverside Campground
Reviewed 7 July 2016

Riverside Campground is one of the best campgrounds we have ever camped in. This was our 12th year there. We never tire of our visits and are always sad to leave. Sites are spacious, varied in location / scenery and always clean and well kept. Tables are always in good condition. Fire pits in all sites and fire wood is available for purchase at the office. The campground offers numerous hiking trails, a swimming pool and miniature golf along with being located along the beautiful St. Mary river, where whitewater rafting is available. Kudos to the management group! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to next year!
Campground is close to several wonderful golf courses and there are paved bike paths from Kimberley to Cranbrook.

Room Tip: Most of the sites are very nice, however the river view are superior!

Upon our arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady at the reception desk who checked us in. As the campground wasn’t going to be too busy we were told that if we found another site that we preferred we could switch if desired - just let her know.

Towing a 40’ fifth wheel trailer, we had been assigned to site #69 and upon inspection found it to be big enough to take our rig and truck. This is an older campground with a variety of different sized sites so make sure you emphasize the size of your MH or tailer. Getting in to #69 wasn’t the easiest of manoeuvres but after a couple of minutes we managed it. Although, because of the road layout, it did call for some quite sharp turning while reversing and a little bit of shunting back and forth. Not sure how easy that would have been if the pull through sites opposite been occupied.

Our site had sewer, water, 30 & 50 amp power that all worked as required. The only thing I wish I had known when I made the reservation a few days earlier was that there was a ‘boil water advisory’ in affect. This necessitated us having to go back out and buy some bottled water for drinking and running through the coffee maker.

The sites are spaced apart quite well and all appear to have mature trees and shrubs between, providing a sense of privacy. The sites come in all manner of lengths and widths but are all gravel based and include a fire pit and picnic table with bench seats. Some site appear more level than others but #69 was nicely level for us.

We had selected a river view site but what I didn’t realize was that the river was about 50’ below us down a pretty steep, almost sheer drop. If you are coming here with younger children you will need to be extra vigilant while they play outside. We noticed that many of the other sites in other parts of the campground also had very steep drop-offs at the back of the sites so be very cautious.

There is no wi-fi at individual sites but apparently there are three ‘hot-spot’ locations. Rogers and Telus both had some signal bars showing at the site.

The bathrooms are a little dated but serviceable. We chose to use our own on-board facilities instead of the campground showers though.

There is a pool and a mini-golf putting course but we didn’t use these. Elk and deer wander through the campground adding to the natural ambience of the place which is kept very clean and tidy. Being very early in the spring it was also very quiet, with the only noise being either the river or the birds. We stayed here in a 5th wheel trailer and would return again.

Room Tip: Be very specific with the size of you RV. Some site are very short and wouldn't handle anything...

We go out to Kimberley every year to stay at this campground. It's always clean - from the individual campsites to the washrooms to the riverfront - they're all clean all the time and the staff works hard to ensure the park stays that way. All the staff is cheerful and pleasant and we have yet to experience anything less than a great experience. Be it biking, hiking, swimming or exploring the Kimberley/Cranbrook area there's always something enjoyable to do.

This is a modern, clean and well maintained campground. The sites are well levelled and all have city water and power hookups. There are laundry services at the office, as well as a pleasant outdoor pool with a great view of the mountains.

If you are travelling with kids (we weren't) this may be the perfect place for you. There is a playground and day use area with easy access to the river, short trails in and around the grounds, and a minigolf course (though overpriced in my opinion, $11 per adult).

However, if you prefer more rustic campgrounds with more space between sites and more of a wilderness feel you may want to look somewhere else. We were hoping for a little more space and privacy, but felt the trade off for the better, cleaner facilities balanced well. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but didn't really feel we could get comfortable in our site.

Hi Estrempler,

Thank you for taking the opportunity to leave fellow trip advisor users your very good review. We are thankful you found the facilities clean and well maintained and had time to enjoy the swimming pool! We are sorry to hear you found your site was limited on privacy and space and the mini golf was overpriced.

Just to clarify the Mini-Golf adult price is $10.00 and for camping here ("Happy Camper" promotion) you receive a voucher for $1.00 per person off your first round long with 50% off your next visit. We do research our rates for the region and mini golf at other courses ranges from $8 - $12.50 for an adult, so we felt mid range at $10 (or $9 for campers) good value for money. With the feedback you have provided we will certainly be reviewing the rates and taking all your comments into consideration.

We hope if you decide to come stay with us again that we can go do everything possible to get you more comfortable in your campsite. With all that being said, we really appreciate you providing us with your feedback; without feedback we would struggle to make improvements and better satisfy our valued guests!
