There are quite a bit of logistic drawbacks that this resort has. After weighing / comparing it with Fernie and Sunshine Village I prefer the second ones. Here is why:
1) Kimberley has a SEVERE bottleneck situation at its base station. In other words, it has only one quad chair to get all the customers up the hill and to the other 2 ridges / lifts.
2) It has 2 slow-speed chairs (Easter and Tamarack) that accumulate quite long lines of people.
3) On Tamarack and Vimy ridges there are very few groomed runs. I like groomed runs but I hate to wait for the impossible queues at the bottom, so my only choice was to move to Tamarack and Vimy ridges, where there was only one black run groomed in each, despite the abundance of black runs.
4) There are only 2 cashiers, which again contributes to huge lines of people buying tickets in the morning and delays.
5) No place where to leave backpacks (e.g., as Lost Boys Cafe and Bear's Den in Fernie). Thus, one is forced to ride with it or leave it in the snow somewhere. I would not leave my backpack at the base station, because it is impossible to return in reasonable time, due to the bottleneck situation at the base station.
6) A few vindictive employees, who work as lift operators or ski patrol who can ruin anybody's day. I have been going regularly to ski resorts for the last 20 years and I have never encountered such bad judgement and behavior. Special mention of Douglas J Martin.
Thank you for your comments and letting us know your concerns. We are always striving to improve the experience for our guests and look to valuable feedback like yours for suggestions. We will be sure to pass your comments and concerns to our management team to review and take into account for the upcoming ski season. Thank you again and we do hope you decide to visit us again in the future at Kimberley Alpine Resort.
We were lucky enough to visit and ski Kimberley Alpine Resort during a winter storm, which resulted in tons of fresh powder! We didn't have to wait in line for the chair lifts. There is a good variety of runs that would make every level/type of skier happy!
My only complaint is that the runs are very poorly labelled as you head down the mountain. You will reach a fork and have no idea which one to choose and where you might end up (this is a bit concerning when skiing with young children of different abilities).
Thank you for your comments, you definitely visited Kimberley at the right time! We'll be sure to pass your comments about proper signage onto our management team for further review. Hope to see you again!
Nice hill. Well taken care of. Need to remove rocks from the run. The day ski lodge was nice but not able to see the skiers coming down the hill. I would recommend for anyone who likes to take their family skiing.
Thank you for your comments, we are always looking for ways to improve and will pass yours onto our outdoor operations management. Hope to see you again!
If you're not one for the crowds and high prices of the more well known resorts elsewhere in the province and south of the border, then Kimberley is the place for you. I love how much of a local feel this resort has, yet all the amenities for an extended stay visitor are readily available. There is an on mountain sport school, rental shop, retail store, and several half decent places to eat so you can come here and enjoy a few days or a full week or more of skiing and still never get your fill as each day you anticipate which runs were groomed, which are still left with prior days' skiied powder or whatever!
Thank you for your comments, we're glad you hear you had a good Kimberley experience. Hope to see you again!
Firstly the great things...The Ski Instructor my son had was fantastic, really encouraging and positive. The food at both places to eat was really good. The service from the Ski shop was great.
Renting equipment took an age before we even got to the stage of getting the equipment. We had very little help with the boots for my son despite us telling them we knew nothing about skiing and not able to say whether NZ shoe size and Canadian are similar. As a consequence the instructor brought him back to get another pair of boots missing over 20 min of his lesson. The second pair of boots were a bad fit too.
It was a good morning, nice atmosphere.
Thank you for leaving your review, it's through comments like yours we can improve. We're glad you had an overall good experience and will pass the rest of your comments onto management for review. Thank you again!
Nice managable skiresort for families and people who like it quiet. Would have been way better with more snow, but won't blame that on the skihill. Gives you plently runs for powdering, but you better get out in the morning.
Only four stars, because i had the feeling that they took their time with the terrainpark and took more care with the slopes. The deal with the RCR card seems very reasonable for people who are staying longer than a week and have a car to go to fernie or other!
Thank you for your comments, we're glad to hear you had a good time and hope to see you again!
