Great place to stay. Bev was super helpful with the booking process. Lyle was the best host. He was very welcoming. I just love the genuine smile on his face while explaining the history of the place. You can tell how proud he is of this place, how him and his son has designed and build each cabin. Each of the cabins has special character. The sauna was such a treat to have especially after a nice hike or bike ride. Nancy and "Ruben" the resident puppy/dog were great team. Ruben became our guide when we went for a hike. We met Nancy on the trail when we are trying to figure out which other trail we could use to go back (shorter). It was very nice trail along the river. Leanne and her team has prepared us a very nice dinner for two nights. They are both really delicious but my favourite was her dinner steak. Happy tummy! Lastly the beds are super comfy and we all sleep like a baby after a long fun day. The team was super happy at the end of the retreat. Everyone just had a fantastic time and they all want to come back!

Room Tip: The Rocky Mountain Cabin is good for groups or families.

We had an amazing time at this location for our staff retreat. So close to our home in Banff and such a fantastic place to visit. Lyle greeted us on arrival and explained a little about the resort and it's history. If you can find him onsite(he might be chopping wood somewhere or doing trail maintenance who knows where) he's a great guy to chat to and the story of Nipika is remarkable. Highlights for our team on the retreat

- group hike to Natural bridge on the Cross RIver (half group). great trail system well marked.

- Group mountain bike to above, plus exploring the trails throughout the north side of the resort. I'm a biker myself and found the trails very suitable for our novice group, and challenging when I wanted to get away from them. Bikes available for rent onsite.

- Big and small cabins to hang out in. Our group congregated in the Rocky Mountain Cabin where we served up our own breakfasts and lunch. Each cabin is fully equipped so you can prepare meals as you like. it really makes a trip more affordable when you can do the cooking yourself. BUT
- We had dinners catered in the barn (also a great story behind where the "barn" came from. Thanks to Leanne and her team for two great dinners.

- Time in the woodfired suana. cooling off in the pond out front. Repeat. Repeat again. and again. and again.

Great time. Hope to make another trip out this winter and test out the fat bike trails.

Room Tip: The smaller cabins are more private versus getting a room in the big cabin.

We arrived at the resort on a Tuesday afternoon, and found a staff member to check us in. She let us know we were the only guests on site until Friday, and that there would be no staff on site the first night. She showed us to the main staff accommodation building, which housed the only phone, and the list of emergency phone numbers. After that we were on our own. As darkness fell, we realized several of the other cabins had lights left on, so we went to turn those, and the heaters, off, as the resort advertises itself as "off the grid".
The second day, after a night picturing all that could go wrong and pondering our responsibility for the property in absence of a caretaker, staff returned, silently, along with some horses and some dogs. We spent a gorgeous day exploring the trails. Around 6pm, we noticed the horses, the dogs and the staff were gone again. Staying there alone, unexpectedly, for a second night was even more unnerving than the first, as we definitely did not expect to be the only ones there.
The third morning, after another sleepless night, staff, the horses and the dogs returned. We spent some more time on the trails, and enjoyed the cabin. As before, staff and animals cleared out, leaving us completely alone. By then, after two sleepless nights, my nerves were shot, and I was not impressed.
Finally, morning arrived, and with it, staff, dogs and horses. My husband spoke to someone on site, who advised that it was normal not to have staff around. He also mentioned our quiet would be interrupted, as the cabins were all booked, and that he was also staying on site. We were a bit relieved that there would be others there, and we hoped they would not be too loud.
Guests started to arrive at 4:00, and they appeared to be friends of a staff member on site. A picnic table was delivered to the front of our cabin, which would have been useful earlier in our stay. The final group of guests arrived, loudly, at 9:30pm. We were glad it would be our last night.
All in all, the cabins are nice, the staff is unobtrusive when there, and the trails system is beautiful. We played disc golf, and landed the discs in horse manure more than once, as the horses roaming the meadow defecate freely, and nobody seemed to do anything to clean up after them during our four night stay. The lack of a night caretaker was incredibly stressful and felt irresponsible on the part of the owners, especially considering there are no phones in the cabins and no cell service should something happen. The cabins should also each be equipped with a first aid kit if guests are being left to their own devices.
My rating is based on the fact that days were lovely, nights were awful, and we had no warning going in that we would be all alone, off the grid, for the majority of our stay. Staff did not check in with us, aside from when we sought them out. For the price, I am not likely to return, and would not recommend.

Room Tip: The "rooms" are cabins, with at least one queen bed, and a number of twin beds throughout.

We cannot say enough great things about Nipika Mountain Resort when we try and describe what a perfect venue it was for our daughter and son-in-law's wedding.

During the months leading up to the big day and also the during the entire weekend the Nipika staff did everything they could to make it special and stress-free for all of us.

Nipika is off–the-grid and eco-friendly, yet it is still very classy and comfortable. All of the guests marveled at the beauty and amenities and they loved being able to relax and enjoy the site. Both the wedding party and guests took advantage of the canoeing on the Kootenay with the Nipika guides. Other guests biked, hiked, or just enjoyed the view from the cabin decks while having mini reunions and relaxing before the ceremony.

Lyle, Dianne, Steve, Marnie, Bev, Nancy, Leann, Pate, Jenn and your support staff are a remarkable crew. We have never met a more laid back, relaxed and easier crew to work with, yet you still get things done and you look after every detail. There wasn’t a thing you couldn’t accommodate for us to make it unique for Jillian and Cam and we very much appreciated that.

The cabins were well appointed, the food was delicious, and the scenery beyond incredible! The beautiful horses added a bonus to the entertainment and one almost stole the show during the speeches. Jillian and Cam really had a wedding that suited their love of nature and the great outdoors, thanks to all of you! We know we will return to Nipika to reminisce and celebrate family times together.

In the meantime continue your great work out there and we wish you all health and happiness along the way!

I had an excellent adventure with a friend on the Crown of the Continent trip out of Nipika Mountain Resort. I recommend it very enthusiastically. This was my first backpacking trip, and I learned a lot. It was spectacularly beautiful, challenging and rewarding, and the experience of a lifetime!

The trip was supposed to be 5 days of backpacking and camping on the Rockwall trail, followed by 4 days of paddling on the Kootenay River. However, the day we were to leave for the Rockwall, the highway we needed was closed because of smoke from the wild fires. Our guides quickly came up with a plan of somewhere else to hike, an area of the Continental Divide where there are no trails. Our guides (Pate and Dan) were exceptionally knowledgeable, experienced, and capable, which is what made this last-minute change of plan possible.

We hiked and camped in extraordinary beauty high in the mountains, in gorgeous valleys with glacier-fed streams and lakes, and across alpine meadows overflowing with wildflowers. The feeling of being in those mountains is something I will never forget.

The second part of the trip was the four-day paddle on the Kootenay River, and this part was not affected by the fires. We paddled in inflatable canoes more than 100km in level 1,2 and 3 rapids. Our guides (Dan and Jenn) were highly skilled and knowledgeable, which made the trip relaxing and a lot of fun. The Kootenay River is beautiful with its intense blue-green colour, high rock cliffs and soft sand beaches.

Before and after the backpacking and paddling, we stayed in a comfortable and lovely cabin at Nipika Mountain Resort. We did a day hike along the beautiful trails beside the Kootenay River. The staff were all very friendly, and the food provided with the Crown of the Continent trip was excellent (at the resort as well as on the backpacking and paddling portions of the trip).

I very very highly recommend this trip and I would say any trip organized by Nipika Mountain Resort. They are simply excellent.
