We returned here recently for a post-Christmas getaway. As it was the first time around the hotel is immaculately clean, has a gorgeous layout and possesses some of the friendliest staff I've had the pleasure of encountering in my travels. Great service and so very accommodating.
The problem with this stay, and it's a big one, was the sleep quality. Friday night was fine, as was Sunday but Saturday the hotel hosted multiple parties and therein lies the issue. The noise levels in the main lounge and lobby were near intolerable, you literally could not communicate without shouting. The music was incredibly loud and at times punctuated by an MC that was even louder on the microphone, ear splitting really. Some other guests asked for the doors to the banquet hall to be closed to minimize the noise, a request that was ignored. At this time, several guests in the lounge area were stumbling and having trouble walking. By 10.30 many of us decided we had enough and thought we could retreat to the privacy of our rooms for some sleep, how wrong we were!! The music continued blaring well past midnight. I am not adverse to partying myself, but at a spa that prides itself on rest and relaxation? The music ending resulted in another issue altogether, this loud, classless and incredibly drunk group of forty and fifty somethings now spilled into the lobby and the halls of the second floor where our room was located. They yelled, they screamed and they charged down the halls making loud noises including banging on guest doors and screaming 'Hello!!!!', this persisted until well after three in the morning and only after a neighboring guest opened his door and told them to keep it down. The guest politely told them to settle down and was then essentially yelled at to 'f..k off' amid many other things we could not quite decipher through our door. I spoke to a staff member the next day who admitted that he was 'really fed up' and mentioned the Provincial police being dispatched to one of the Pavilions around 4.30 am the previous night.
My question is: isn't sleep quality a concern of this hotel? Is it not a little ridiculous for a family to spend $200.00 to $300.00 dollars on massages at the spa only to be kept awake all night by rowdy inconsiderate drunken fools? The hotel also considers itself family friendly, we had young children with us that needed to sleep. Who is more important the disrespectful partiers or the families that shelled out for a decent family vacation. The hotel features multiple banquet halls so meetings and receptions will be inevitable. I just strongly believe they should hire some competent security to ensure the peace of mind and security of all guests. Staff should have warned these revelers at a decent hour to pipe down and if they did not cooperate they should have been expelled for the greater good of the clientele that was indeed quietly trying to respect the property and other guests.
Overall, the events of Saturday night marred an otherwise fine experience. Manoir St-Sauveur will have to decide at some point if it wants to cater to a party crowd like any Howard Johnson Motor Court or Holiday Inn or if they want to retain a reputation as a relatively upscale family vacation destination. Again nothing against parties, but really an establishment such as this should make sure that after midnight noise levels are kept to a dull roar.
