Fabulous stay at the old excuse house thanks to emma and ron's splendid hospitality. Beautiful house, wonderful breakfast, stunningly picturesque location. Could not ask for more and would thoroughly recommend.

From the beautiful breakfast prepared by Emma each morning to the luxurious bath, everything was wonderful! We were happy to have a chat with Ron each morning before heading out to the various distilleries within walking distance of the B&B. We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay, and plan on staying the next time we visit Islay.

The Old Excise House is situated on A846, just outside Port Ellen. The path from Port Ellen to Laphroig, Lagavullin and Ardbeg runs along the road, where The Old Excise house is located, so it's an easy walk either into Port Ellen for dinner of for a distillery tour.
The Old Excise House offers two beautiful and spacious rooms overlooking the coast line, not far from Laphroig Distillery. Lovely furniture in the rooms, splendid bathrooms (ours came with a free standing bathtub instead of a shower - plus a small bench "for the other to sit and read poems"), everything very well kept and immaculate clean.
Free WiFi throughout the house, although we had some initial trouble connecting our Apple devices. Beautiful lounge room with lots of books, maps and periodicals, so even a rainy day should not be too much of a problem.
Sumptuous breakfast prepared according to your wishes. No need to name your choices the day before as it's the rule in so many B&Bs: just sit down at the breakfast table and tell Emma and Ron what you are longing for. And be prepared for some freshly baked extra treat, coming right from the oven.
We'll be back!

So lucky to have found this super B&B for our first visit to Islay. Great hosts, great accommodation, great location. Ron and Emma certainly go above and beyond with their attention to detail and helpfulness. The welcome with home baking, fantastic breakfasts... mmmm delicious homemade bread and marmalade, and great local knowledge, certainly made our stay so special.

Room Tip: Both rooms are lovely with great views

We were warmly welcomed by Ron and Emma to their beautiful and comfortable house. The accommodation was superb. Lovely beds and bedrooms, and bathrooms with beautiful views. Emma is an award-winning cook, and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious. No dietary requirement was too much trouble. Ron was a source of knowledge about anything on Islay. A bonus is that there are 3 distilleries within walking distance along the new 3 Distilleries Way.

Room Tip: 2 lovely rooms, both ensuite plus a lounge/breakfast room.
