On Friday morning, bright and early, 7AM, we arrived in Port Alberni to board the M.V.Frances Barkley, The passenger/ freight ferry to Uclulet. Everyone was cheerful and very helpful. They picked up our loaded double Delta and gently stowed it in the bow of the boat. During the trip up the coast we had a simple onboard breakfast and happily sat and watched the beautiful scenery go by. We were also thrilled by the sight of a great humpback whale which the captain very graciously stopped the boat for to allow us to take all the pictures we wanted. We reached Seachart in 3 hours and were met by friendly outgoing staff. The lodge is very clean and comfortable, although if one is looking for luxury this is not the place for you. But if you want warm, comfortable rooms with great buffet style meals and warm, welcoming hosts, this is the spot to make camp when paddling through the gorgeous Broken Islands. We did have one day of pouring rain and it was truly wonderful to arrive back at the lodge for a hotmeal and a great bottle of wine. They have a limited, although good wine list and you are also free to bring your own. Even having to share the bathrooms was not a problem. The womens had 2 shower stalls, which were clean and towels were provided. The only thing I might recomend is, if you have a problem with stairs, request the main floor as the bathrooms are on the main floor. There are maps and lots of info on the islands. You can also arrange drop-off and pick-up with the people at the Lodge. No Hiking, unless you don't mind sharing the space with bears and cougers. Saw quite a few.On the last day of our stay we decided to hop the Ferry and take the rest of the ride to Uclulet. Spent an hour in Uclulet and then headed back to the lodge and then on to Port Alberni and again the captain stopped for whales and took a scenic route through the islands. Very, very enjoyable. All in all I would highly recommend a stay at Seachart. For the $ The Seachart Lodge was well worth it!
