My wife and I recently had a three day break at Holme Lacy and for the first time were a little disappointed. Firstly we discovered that unlike the other Warner Hotels we have visited there was no house band.Being a musician myself I have always enjoyed jhaving a live band.

Also we decided to book the Bistro restaurant for the second night of our stay and the Orchard Restaurant for the third night.

The first night we found the food excellent in The main Bremner Restaurant but the second night we were very disappointed with the Bistro.
I had vegetable soup which was completely tasteless
followed by beef which in itself was OK but the vegetables were bland and the roast potatoes very poor
My wife chose a lamb dish and found the meat very tough.
I complained to the manager and refused to pay the supplement.
Rather than risk being dissappointed with the Orchard we swopped back to the Bremmner for the last evening and had a very good meal indeed

Other than this we found the hotel delightful and the staff extremely professional, friendly and helpful including the manager

We have visited Littlecote, Cricket and Bembridge Coast and never had cause to complain in the past

It was a shame to have hade these hiccups at Holme Lacy

The Gardens and grounds were lovely and the cabaret which featured The Rubettes and Comedian Bob Taylor superb

Basic accommodation adequate although the grading of facilities according to the price paid is somewhat parsimonious. Mugs instead of cups and saucers for the room facilities. Shallow baths (water couldn't cover the minimum!!!). Service in the restaurant dreadful at times. One hour to serve a starter. Two meals ordered from the kitchen failed to arrive and had to be chased up. One, a slow cooked duck never did arrive, possibly still trying to catch it! Carvery, uninspiring. Roast potatoes are obviuos ly prepared hours in advance with the result that they resembled minature rugby balls with about as much taste. The chef has a penchant for just showing the vegetables the stove a la the Hairy Bikers, I do like my greens and beans actually cooked. Breakfast was OK but if croissants and rolls were wanted one just had to go without as only about three of each were ever available. No low fat spread was ever available. Marmalade and honey were just arranged in the tins in which they were sold without a spoon or means of decanting them. The sides were sticky and unhygenic in the extreme. The staff were willing but most of East European origin and there was some language difficulty. They also required more direction as most were new to the tasks. The restaurant manager did his best but could not be in every place at the same time. Shame. It is a lovely setting, the house is gorgeous and eight nyears ago I would have recommended it to anyone but now...............?

Recently had a four night mid-week break at Holme Lacey (Warner, Just for Adults). Stayed in a Signature room, though their Ambassador rooms are fine too (I had no other choice, all rooms were booked!).

Fabulous spa centre, swimming pool, bubble pool, steam, sauna etc, great evening entertainment with their in-house entertainment team (though the outside comedian they brought in for the 1st night was a bit ropey - hope they change him!).

The archery/shooting and other sports that are included are great - totally booked out as very popular. Food is good, (room for improvement there a little)....

Overall, a really relaxing break in a Grade 1 Listed historic home - topped with the glorious weather we had, I'm booked up again already !

We spent 3 nights at Holme Lacy over the weekend of July 31st. I am at a loss to understand the adverse comments by some people on this site. We last visited this Hotel in 2003 and since then have been on a number of cruises and the hospitality and food at Holme Lacy matched everything we experienced on these exotic holidays. What is there to complain about? Our Royale Room on the ground floor was large and comfortable and although I would have liked a bath, the shower was modern and superb. We found the decorations in our room and the whole Hotel to be of the highest standards. Our designated restaurant was the Orchard and we enjoyed food of a very high standard and with excellent service from the waiters & waitresses. There is so much to do! a wonderful warm indoor swimming pool which we used a lot. We also took part in rifle shooting and golf and tennis and for a small extra charge, a digital photography lesson.

Our only small complaint was that the Sunday 'Pimms & Barbecue' on the terrace was a little disorganised.

The entertainment each evening in the Pavilion was of the highest standard and we never had any problem in getting good seats.

We will certainly be returning to Holme Lacy. We spent a few days at 'Lakeside' on Hayling Island a couple of years ago and that did not match the standard of Holme Lacy & we would not return there.

We booked an "historical" room for a 2 night weekend break with fine dining in the Orchard Restaurant and were not disappointed. The food in the Orchard was of a reasonable standard and the service in this restauarant was excellent. In fact the service in generally was good although rather slow in the bar, especially at lunchtime. The lunch menu was very limited but with a large breakfast and good dinner provided, a snack luchtime was enough for us. The location is stunning and there were enough activities to keep us busy over the duration of our stay. The entertainment in the evenings was very good and it was no problem finding a table which is a plus!
This hotel does seem to cater mainly for the over 50s with a large percentage of pensioners but we didin't find that to be a problem.

On the whole an enjoyable and relaxing break.
