Attended a family wedding Wow!! Can’t praise this hotel enough! They are the friendliest and most professional team I have ever met from any hotel. I’m well traveled and have high standards but I couldn’t fault them. I also had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Thresh the general manager and can see why his team are so good under his direction, he could not do enough to make us feel welcome, I can see why this is the number one hotel in Bristol. It’s outstanding and we will definitely be visiting again soon.

Thank you to Andrew & his team. A very memorable experience for all the right reasons!! Wow

Everything we have come to expect from this location of Hotel Du Vin. All boxes ticked

We booked a table for our wedding anniversary and asked for two glasses of Champagne before dinner, unfortunately the young waiter ,after placing my wife’s glass on the table accidentally spilt some of mine on my wife’s dress. Accidents happen! after that it’s all about service recovery - the young man was genuinely apologetic, brought me a refilled glass and duly cleaned the table.
Service recovered ! Red wine on a white dress may have been a different story though.

Our table was immaculately laid out with cutlery in a sealed napkin, the waiter attended immediately and took our wine order and also returned with some bread. The white wine arrived swiftly and was perfect temperature. The red wine was also delivered with a couple of red glasses. It may seem petty but the glasses were immaculate with no watermarks or fingerprints in sight. Not always the same at other locations of HDV.

Starters were spot on.
Main courses were also very nice apart from a chunk of my medium-rare ribeye that appeared to have missed the grill and was not cooked at all.Not the end of the world, but the waiter ( bearded young man, from memory he was from Poland - Excellent all night by the way) took the complaint on board and offered me a free dessert.

I settled for a single cheeseboard which was delicious.
We had a couple of after dinner drinks, again served at just the right time!

Table service needs to be spot on, not over fussy with constant interruptions and checking, nor too remote and unreliable where you find yourself desperately trying to catch someone’s eye chasing up that drinks order from 15 mins ago.
HDV Sugar House always gets it just right

Spot on!
Five stars every time!

Back soon!

Dear Family Traveller68,

On behalf of my team I cannot thank you enough for such a wonderful balanced review and whilst mistakes are disappointing service recovery trumps mistakes although it is equally important we avoid repetition which we will.

Kind Regards

HDV proved to be the ideal venue for this event. Throughout the planning & organisation, I was extremely impressed by the professionalism of their meeting organiser Lauren Coffey. On the day itself, we were looked after by Mihal who couldn't have done more to help the event run smoothly, particularly in the evening when we changed numbers for dining twice - he very calmly produced, then removed additional furniture. I was so impressed that have just booked a follow up meeting at the same venue.

Poor experience. Parking is a bit of a nightmare so do be aware. The service was lacklustre at best. Many websites say this hotel does 24 hour room service- it does not. Staff at reception were standoffish with us from the moment we arrived - we arrived a bit early and asked to leave bags for 30 mins whilst we waited for the room and clearly this annoyed the member of staff on reception.

We stayed in a large dog friendly room for a special birthday. The room was lovely and clean and housekeeping staff were lovely. The nespresso machine in the room was broken.

We checked in at 3 and asked to get a drink - were told the bar doesn’t open until 5 which was disappointing as we wanted to toast our stay. The next day, people were being served in the bar at 3:30pm so it’s not consistent. After seeing people having a drink we called down and we’re told room service and drinks were not available until 5 but we were welcome to order a Deliveroo. The hotel has a lovely bar so it’s such a shame you can’t use it for the majority of the day.

The breakfast was poor - we ate in the bar with the dog. The food was in parts inedible, and minor requests (such a no yogurt with granola) was refused as it had all been “pre made” so no changes were allowed. We skipped breakfast on day 2.

Whilst the room was lovely, £250 a night to not be able to get a drink, have unhelpful staff and poor breakfast felt like a rip off. Such a shame as we were so excited to stay!

Room tip: Plan parking ahead- you can book through the hotel but it’s limited. We got a discounted rate at the NCP but it’s still £20 a day
