Description: This restaurant Is listed in all the eating out guides for Alderney as in Braye Street by Braye Beach, but it has just moved up into St Annes town. It doesn't have a website but should be listed as we visited July 2012 for lunch and it was excellent - restaurant with lovely garden, renowned locally.

“Worth hunting out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2012

Bumps Eating House is in all the guide books as on Braye St, but has recently moved to behind Nellie Gray's, off Victoria St. We stopped off here after a morning's cycling around the island, spotting their (not very obvious) sign as we came in at the top of main street, and deciding to check out what lay up the driveway, as there are limited options on Alderney!
As well as a parking at the top of the ramp, we found a peaceful little oasis through an archway - a well kept walled garden with lawn and flower beds, plenty of outoor seating and another lovely raised outdoor dining area in the far corner - see photo. There was also a reasonable sized indoor dining area with bar.
It was nearing 3pm, so we were concerned we would have missed lunch, but the chef said no problem at all, and we enjoyed a beautiful crab salad each on the terrace, plus very good value Pimms and lemonade (half the price of Braye Beach Hotel). There were another couple of tables occupied with people either dining or drinking, and we gathered from a local that it was a popular choice with Alderney residents for its good food. If we had been staying longer we would have returned for dinner. Definitely worth a visit, even though they're hiding themselves away with minimal publicity!

“A hidden gem off Victoria Street on Alderney”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2012

Mine host, Eddy, used to be in Braye Street but had, only the week before I visited, relocated to new premises near to the top of Victoria Street which not only offers a bright and friendly conservatory style restaurant but also a hidden gem of a garden which, even in this somewhat damp summer, looked superb and he is accompanied by a young and caring front of house team who make you feel really special - which you are!
Eddy's daily changing and varied menu, which includes local island pork and fish, beef and vegetarian dishes, all of modern cuisine, + crepes which are a delight for both a luncheon and dinner menu, is sure to delight every diner be it for an intimate dinner date, a "billy no-mates" dining experience or a wonderful family or party meal, be it a luncheon, dinner or that all too lovely Sunday Lunch.
A wine list which is evolving plus local beer makes for a bar atmosphere during the Sunday to Sunday period of opening, giving, I think, only a Sunday evening to find an alternative "watering hole".
My first dinner at Bumps, with a partner not met since our teenage years some 50 years previously, led to a number of visits during the following week which, having now left the island, convinced me to return and renew this acquaintance before another 50 years has past!
You will not be disappointed with the eating experience here at Bumps!

“Excellent food if not über-original”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2012 via mobile

We had an excellent meal at Bumps in there new location in St Annes. Really nice restaurant and garden, food was excellent although it was a fairly "standard" menu with nothing groundbreaking. However I would rather have it this way round rather than super fancy menus which are poorly executed.
