Treated ourselves to a cream tea after the excursions of climbing to the castle. Lovely little cafe. Friendly welcome and the scones were amazing. We all had fruit scones and they were huge, and the cream...delicious!

We did get there fairly early so I can't comment on the service when it's at peak times but we had no problems.

The views are also fantastic! A great cafe!

We stopped here for a cream tea and were very disappointed. On the day we were there they must have run out of jam/ramekins as they only had small plastic individual portions (you know the ones you get in service stations and in cheap hotels?!). One of these covered about quarter of their big scones.

Would suggest they keep well stocked in fresh good quality Jam. This could be cost neutral to them if they had slightly smaller (and less dry) scones! If they really really have to give plastic portions then I'd suggest 2-3 per cream tea...I mean how much do they cost to buy in bulk?

Don't be cheap when you charge premium prices!

We had to wait too long, then they ignored us. The cream tea was horrible and expensive. We had another in town and it was great.

A stunning setting and a pretty cafe, however.... service was atrocious. At 1230 we ordered 4 steak pasties. 5 minutes later we were informed, they had run out, so I ordered 2 steak and 1 cheese & onion. The £4 refund seemed rather tricky to the young girl. We then waited 20+ minutes, with no apology. Such a disappointment, when it has a prime position overlooking beautiful scenery.

We stood there (no queue) for about 6-7 mins whilst the lady behind the counter did not acknowledge us and continued cleaning her new coffee machine which seemed to have been leaking. Her colleague had come over at this point to ask if we were being served, no we said and she stirred her hot chocolate saying they had just got a hot chocolate machine so she was trying it out. When we finally got served the hot chocolates were not hot (didn't think they worked out how to use the new machine). Especially drinking the coco's outside in the wind, didn't stay hot for long.

Having said that I still think it's worth grabbing a cake and a coffee just make sure you request the milk to be super hot prior to receiving your order.

Enjoy!
