Winter has set in with a vengeance in a damp and dismal Devon. Not inside the wonderfully warm and welcoming Saveurs though! The cheery gingham tablecloths, glittering baubles and seasonal Santa sat at the window table had lured in a room full of eager consumers.

We ordered the daily special of French Onion Soup. A large steaming bowl of fragrant broth with chopped onions and the most divine of croutons bubbling with melted emmental cheese. Simply wonderful. And a goats cheese and courgette quiche, warmed through with a well dressed salad. I do not know what magic these guys use when making their pastry for the quiche but I have never tasted better.....

We could not resist the glorious pastries that sit staring at you from the glass counter- Pick me they seem to call! So we did. A satisfying rustic apple tart and a luxurious raspberry delice that bought a taste of summer with every mouthful.

Wonderful place this- not to be missed. especially at Christmas when they also have a wonderful range of cakes and goodies especially for the festive season.

This is a delightful patisserie and coffee shop on Victoria Road in Dartmouth, just opposite the old market. The glass case as you enter is full of sweet and savoury goodies freshly baked by Saveurs. The pretty patisserie selection is a sight to behold! The coffee is high quality and the hot chocolates absolutely delish! We have enjoyed the atmosphere and food here so much, we've eaten here every day for over a week on our holiday and did so on a previous visit as well, often stopping in for a morning coffee with a croissant and mince pie and ending up staying on for lunch! There are daily specials for lunch on a blackboard and a menu offering a great variety. My favourite is the Brie, Bacon and Onion marmalade baguette, absolutely stuffed with bacon and so tasty you think you want to order another one as soon as the first is set before you, but beware! The portions are large and satisfying. I've tried several soups and they've all been filling and tasty. We've been working our way through the menu and not once have we been disappointed in what we've ordered. Well behaved dogs are welcome - as they are in the many lovely establishments in beautiful Dartmouth. Don't forget to buy one of their fresh loaves on your way out the door. Highly recommended!

There are more widely-known breakfast joints in Dartmouth - some excellent - but give Saveurs a go, too. The breakfasts are marvellous, with the best bread imaginable, and served in a a true French style. Don't miss the bacon baguette, too, though - the best 'bacon butty' in the area :-)

Well, it was more than cake. It was a delicious sweet with my cup of tea on a cold wet afternoon in Dartmouth. This was stylish and gluten free which for a Coeliac is heaven on a plate. Thank you and well done. Highly recommend it for all and for all Coeliacs.

I've been here 3 times over the years, and it's always a delight. Run by real French people, offering outstanding French-style gooey patisseries. the savoury dishses and breakfast are super too. don't be put off if it looks small and crowded- there's lots more tables at the back round a corner.
