Lovely quaint restaurant above a shop selling pasties, pies, sandwiches, tarts and cakes. Tasty food, I had the steak and Stilton pasty, delicious. My friend had the crab and cucumber sandwich, layers of white and dark meat and cucumber, lovely. Very busy with people queuing for tables, obviously popular and justifiably so.

Thank Kate M

This is our 2nd visit to the sloping deck, came here some years ago. Not disappointed just as lovely as back then. Had lunch followed by a cream tea. Very nice place.

The setting is quirky and characterful, and probably not for the young!
Service is old-fashioned and no less good for being so. Food was very good - a decent, if unexciting, menu - and the prices were reasonable, especially for the town-centre setting.Friendly, helpful waiting staff.

As soon as you walk up the stairs you get smell of stale deep fat frying. Carpet, furniture, decorations and waitress's uniforms are from the 60s, I found it quite depressing. Cream tea was reasonable at £5.95, and the menu did state 2 "large" scones - but really they were ridiculously huge and quite over-facing. I've never complained of too much food on my plate, ever, but this was quite off-putting. Jam in a little jar, and clotted cream in a small tub - would have looked so much nicer in little dishes. Not enough jam & cream for the 2nd scone even if you could face eating it. Ah well, they did give us doggy bags, without us even asking!
