Signed up to trip adviser especially to write a well overdue review of durdle durdle and the blue crab 6 months ago. We found the food at the blue crab was very, very poor. I would have been embarrest to present it (yet it was very expensive). Durdle door is a lovely place but we won't be venturing there again. We left with the feeling that the place doesn't care if you return or not. It seems they just wanted our money asap and if we didnt return there would be many others who will be coming to see the area. Shame!

I’d like to say that my stay last weekend at Durdle Door was great but, sadly I can’t. Thanks to the Blue Crab.

We booked in on Saturday morning. Yes, the pod was what we had expected which was fine. We decided we would try out the restaurant for lunch before going off site.

Needless to say, the steak baguette we ordered, wasn’t very nice. The steak tasted like it had been cooked and reheated a number of times and the baguette itself was burnt.

We returned back to the site shortly before the power cut. Now I appreciated this can’t be helped however, due to no power or heating, we headed to the bar for warmth and to see if anyone knew anything.

I approached the bar manager and asked if he knew anything, he abruptly told me I knew as much as him to which he then just walked off.

I then went up to a bar tender in regards to drinks as we only had card. I was told ‘the card machine is out so it’s basically tough until it comes back on’. I think this was appalling. We didn’t ask for an alcoholic drink but we weren’t even offered a soft drink or even water. We weren’t even advised where we could get cash from. Again, the bar tender just walked off.

We sat in the bar for some time. During this time, we saw the bar staff including the bar manager, downing shots of sambuca and drinking pints. But the time we left, they were pretty much drunk.

The next morning we returned to see if the breakfast would be any better than the meal the day before. NO! The scrambled egg was very under cooked and dripped through my fork when I scooped some up! I’m pregnant, under cooked egg is a big no no. The sausage was as black as the ace of spades. Overall, again very disappointing.

While waiting to order the breakfast, we noticed the bar manager looking very uninterested. We guessed as much that he had a hang over, of course he would have. We had no smile or even politeness.

What he did say though was that his tills weren’t connecting. He then went on to show us the smashed till. He claimed that’s what happens when you drink sambuca. He stated, ‘it was an accident, well that’s what I’m telling the boss anyway’. Who in their right mind, acts this way then discussing such things with customers?

I think your staff need further training, not only in their job but how to act like an adult and be respectful and polite. I can certainly say, we will not be returning back to Durdle door park and will strongly advised others the same!

We ordered gluten-free fish and chips and had a long wait on a quiet lunchtime. It turned up without any batter (which was a surprise) but was actually very good. I had the chicken with sweet potato fries - also very tasty. A bit of work on speed and the waiting staff training and this place could easily be a 5/5.

We were asked to wait for 20 minutes just to order. Apparently they didn't want to hog the kitchen. However, place was half empty.
We ordered some sandwiches and fish and chips and got served way later than another group next to us - bigger than ours. They said it was because they had to prepare our food for takeaway(!!). Took about 30/40 minutes.
I did ask for a slice of lemon with my corona but they said they didn't have any lemons left. Strange as I saw a basket with a few lemons behind the bar.

Had a great time stayed on campsite and have been every year for the past 14 years. Campsite excellent and very friendly. Outstanding service in site shop, keep up the good work Jo. The food in the Blue Crab is superb, couldn't fault one bit. Every dish was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Good service received from Gareth and his team. Thanks for a great time. See you soon. Kim, Brian and Daisy the Bichon xxxx
