Over our nine days walking the South Downs Way , out of our six B and Bs , at Riverdale we enjoyed the most comfortable bed and best breakfast surrounded by stunning views . Richard and Judy are welcoming and caring hosts .

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights staying at The Riverdale B & B in Alfriston.

The is house very attractive set on the side of a hill overlooking the valley. It is surrounded by lovely gardens & plenty of off road car parking space.

We were made very welcome by Richard who gave us a great deal of information on the area. Suggesting all sorts of places that might be of interest.

As we hadn't booked anywhere to have dinner he managed to book us a table at The Plough & Harrow.

Our room, The Rathfinny, was very comfortable, light & airy. We slept well & breakfast was excellent. Very tasty & hot. There was a very good choice & nothing was too much trouble.

We would definitely return to The Riverdale & certainly recommend it as a excellent place to stay.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the beautiful Riverdale House, whilst walking the Seven Sisters and the Cuckmere Valley it was a super place to stay whilst experiencing the area around Alfriston. Rarely do you find a beautiful place like this with hosts who go the extra mile to make your stay very special. Thank you very much to Richard/Judy and all at the Riverdale for making our stay so relaxing and memorable. Thanks for the lovely breakfasts and all the information that you imparted about your lovely part of East Sussex.

Room Tip: Views facing the Cuckmere Valley are at the front of the house

Owner Richard is really excellent in supporting his guests in their trips. He does not push his ideas, gives good practical support, books pubs. He connects well to families.
His B&B is in a stylish house with a great view. We had the Litlington room which actually is consisting of two rooms and a bathroom: very convenient for families.
Also the breakfast is excellent.

We needed to stay near to Newhaven and Riverdale was ideal from that point of view. The only room available was the ground floor garden room but we decided to go ahead. We received a warm welcome from Richard and briefed on various aspects. The house is lovely but we would not stay in the ground floor room again- limited hanging and shelf space meant we could not unpack fully- a bit small and the security of the French doors worried us. Alfriston is a lovely village and while within walking distance the pathway alongside the road from Riverdale is rather overgrown and dark - not a pleasant walk. Great old pubs in the village and villages nearby and Richard kindly booked us in for Dinner. Breakfast at Riverdale is very good and it was kind of our hosts to provide a breakfast in time for our early morning departure on our second day.

Stayed: June 2016
