Description: Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, Brighton. We are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails?

We had the omnivore four courses on NYE and the wine flight to accompany our food. The food was delicious - a real treat. I especially enjoyed the mussels (the sauce was perfect), and the duck breast with glazed hearts. The seaweed and kale accompaniments were also tasty.

We enjoyed the natural wine selections - unusual and interesting yet delicious.

Service was friendly and the relaxed atmosphere made for a fun evening. Would highly recommend.

This place is a great little find, the food here is a little different, and really tasty. We were a group of four and ordered different things to share and everything was delicious. They have a good wine list and we were not rushed at all. Would go back without a doubt.

Last weekend I went with a friend for a special re-Christmas Sunday lunch. I wanted somewhere interesting, independent and special. Plateau was all of those things and we both enjoyed everything we ordered. The wine was also very good. Ambience and service were also good, with friendly and well-informed staff. it's not cheap, and it's not for every occasion. But it's a real treat

I had wine and three course lunch which was amazing. I can’t recommend the Jerusalem artichoke starter enough. Lovely friendly staff and quality cooking. Original and authentic.

Basically decorated and furnished but buzzing. We were seated downstairs and the table, 3 on a table for 4, was too small for tapas style eating. Confusingly, our first waiter gave us completely different advice to the waitress who took over as to what the best way to order should be. With hindsight, we should have followed his advice, not her. We had some olives, bread and a very fine salami as entre between us and then had two large plates (duck and sea bream) with two sides (potatoes and kale). We couldn’t fault the food but we should not have had sides, we should have added a couple of small plates - this will make sense when you go there! Desserts were good but £16 for three small bits of cheese was a bit steep. The wine list is all natural wines. This is good but the list is a bit alien to the average reader and our waitress was spectacularly unhelpful, having chosen based on region and grape she told us we probably wouldn’t like it and suggested we choose again. We didn’t and we liked the wine, the cynic in me thinks she was on commission. We will go back, but this time with our eyes open.
