Called in here for a quick dinner last Thursday eve when we were down in Brighton, having seen the good reviews on TA. We were initially perturbed to be taken to a table already occupied by another couple on the other side, but actually not a problem, as the place was so buzzy and the table fairly wide, so that you couldn't hear their conversation. We were then presented with a selection of bread and butter with dips & mackerel pate - nice touch. Also liked the 4 special special champagne cocktails on offer - highly recommend the raspberry one! We decided to share 3 starter plates between us, along with a side of french fries, and we loved our chilli squid with chorizo, scallops with homemade black pud & capers, and monkfish tempura. Plenty there to make us feel we'd had a proper meal - around £8 per dish wasn't so bad given the decent portion sizes. We paid £46 for 2 inc. 1 champagne cocktail (£8.50) and a beer.
Will definitely visit again when in Brighton. I imagine it's not a place that looks very welcoming in the daytime, given white tiled walls, white marble tables etc, but at night with candlesticks on the tables it had a welcoming ambiance and the staff were attentive and friendly. A well run restaurant for those who enjoy quality seafood. Note that they don't take reservations.
