This is the first time we ate here, the food was of excellent quality, hot and generous portions. Service was friendly and accommodating. The choice of food was varied with most peoples tastes catered for. We would definitely visit again

Our Cotswolds tour stopped at Bourton-on-the-Water at lunch time and we were so lucky to find The Chestnut Tree. They were serving a turkey roast with all the trimmings for lunch and a very reasonable price, and it was absolutely delicious and definitely memorable! Sweet decor with cute teapots and excellent service. I think this is a hidden gem.

Having arrived in Bourton-on-the-Water at about 3PM without having had lunch we went to the first café we found nearest to our parking space. Despite the village being packed with tourists, and it being traditional English teatime, the café was sparsely frequented. We didn't see a 'Scores On The Doors' rating, which we normally use as a barometer of hygiene and quality, but decided to eat there anyway.
The tea shop is functional. I would not call it quaint unlike similar establishments in the village. There are numerous, decorative, teapots on every available surface.
Service was swift and polite. I had a toasted teacake (£1.80p) and a cream tea consisting of a pot of tea for one and two warm scones with two large helpings of strawberry jam and clotted cream (£4.35p). The scones were large, fluffy and tasty. The teacake perfectly toasted. For such a popular tourist location I thought that the food prices were reasonable.
My Daughter had a milkshake and a jacket potato with tuna, mayonnaise and salad (£5.95p). I was surprised that when she asked for two pats of butter to put on the jacket potato we were charged an extra 10p.
The food was good, the service exceptionally quick and the premises appeared clean and well maintained. The toilets were unisex but had been kept clean with necessary items replenished. We'd dine there again.
