The Abarbistro is my go to for lunch whenever I am in Gunwharf.

Such a lovely independent restaurant, a stones throw away from the dominance of the chain in Gunwharf.

Thoroughly recommend the Moules Frites, they have never disappointed and the wines are excellent (even the 'by the glass' offer).

Staff were excellent in the summer when I took our dog, they immediately bought water and tidied a table in the shade so he could be more comfortable. Very impressed.

Abarbistro is probably one of the best restaurants Portsmouth has to offer. It's fish and seafood dishes are excellent and some of the desserts are absolute delights. The staff is very professional and friendly and the selection of wines impressive.

Highly recommend to fish lovers. Catch of the day was Hake with risotto beans and peas.
Sadly does not accept TasteCard.

I ate there last night, and typically visit about once a month all year round.

I like the place as it is a wonderful antidote to the samey chain restaurants available in nearby Gunwharf keys. Although, it doesn't have to be that way, I find the independent restaurants tend to attract and retain better quality staff, both front and back of house.

Abarbistro is a very light and open restaurant with dining in 2 areas most of the time. It also has a bar which attracts a fairly diverse crowd (locals pop in for a drink, ferry workers coming off shift plus the people coming to eat).

The menu is relatively short (usually a good sign of freshness) with many of the typical dishes you'd expect but the action really happens on the specials board which usually features one of more types of fish.

The wine list is pleasingly inexpensive and will likely hold something to meet your taste (no chardonnay by the glass though!).

The best part though is the service - you get the feeling that the staff really do care and want to make the place a success.

Overall, one of the handful of places you want to eat in and around Portsmouth.
