Just come home from a 2 night stay took the dog that was the reason we picked the cuckoo brow after reading the good reviews on how dog friendly it was ,and it really was .
We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in the lay out of the place is a bit strange but this adds to its character and this inn has plenty of that ,it has a really relaxed feel to it .Downstairs is a really relaxed feeling bar nice and warm ,upstairs the room was lovely bed was so comfy the bathroom was really well done we stayed in room 3 nice quiet room .All the staff were really nice and friendly and all seem to like dogs they all went out of there way to make our stay a great one ,food was good always nice and hot breakfast one of the best we’ve had in the lakes our dog Barney got a sausage it’s on the menu nice touch ,the beers were good .Thanks for a great break

Thank sophieNorthEngland

The atmosphere of this place really deserve an entire paragraph of this review. The building is old, nice and well conserved, the inside is pretty cozy except for the fact that the Average age is around 60-70, there is no background music and it is awkwardly quiet.

The service is quite slow, but in line with the slow vibes of the room.

Food quality is ok, nothing more. Definitely not worth the 50 miles we drove to get there. The chef is the smartest cheeky individual in the Lake District: our roasted lamb was consisting of two really thin slices placed over an entire boiled potato so it was looking like a fat, inviting piece of meat with a big surprise underneath . My congrats to this guy. You should just change the name of the dish to boiled and semi-roasted potatoes with a bit of lamb on the side.

Besides that I would really suggest to go somewhere else unless you are 70 years and do not want a lot of meat in your Sunday roast.

Thank mtttnt

Busy July evening, had not booked but fitted us in okay, after short wait. Decent food, would use again should we find ourselves in this area of the lakes in future - stayed just down the road, so very convenient.

We walked in and stood at the place where you're meant to wait for a table for 3 minutes while the staff argued with each other over an order. Then we stood there for another 3 minutes while the staff ignored us and carried on sorting out cutlery. It was quite bizarre, we were inches away, and still they ignored us - almost like they were playing a game. So we left.

This was our 5th stay at the Cuckoobrow and once again it was nothing short of brilliant. Timber and Willow both loved their stay and met some other lovely dogs while there.
The menu and food quality was brilliant, I fully recommend the baby back ribs and the Camembert with garlic and rosemary on the evening. For breakfast the egg brioche always sets you up for a good days walk! The tea is refreshing and caps off a lovely breakfast.
After a good day out in the beautiful lakes, it’s so nice to know you are going back to a great atmosphere and a cosy nights sleep!
We will back in January and May next year!

Ps the photo below is timber (left) and willow (right) getting ready for dinner in their bow ties.
