Tha=is was a bit of a mystery as booking was a bit disjointed and service was "nicely eccentric" in a way. Food was very good and tasty, quite efficient and had a nice small restaurant feel to it.... recommended!

After trying to book a number of restaurants In Cockermouth ‘The Front Room’ was recommended to us. I must say it felt and looked much more like a cafe than a restaurant. Whilst the staff were very friendly and polite the food wasn’t really up to our expectations. Although all home cooked the portions were very small and pricey. My prawn cocktail only had about 4 prawns in it. I had the lasagne for main which came with one small piece of garlic bread. Needless to say we were still hungry when we left. :(

Service good and staff friendly and helpful .Menu is somewhat limited but there are some good choices- All food home cooked and hot and tasty-Seating not very comfortable and more cafe like than restaurant- Prices reasonable. This is quite a small venue maybe seating forty people.

My wife and I visited with five friends. We were greeted by friendly attentive staff. We all had different meals including starters and desserts. Each meal was excellent with empty plates throughout. The menu is limited but they are extremely good at what they do. There are enough vegetarian options (I can recommend the Frittata) and a short, but good, wine list. It is also great value with the bill coming in at under £30 a head with plenty of wine enjoyed. Give it a try you won't regret it.

Our friends booked a table for dinner. They are regulars, but it is not a restaurant we would normally have booked ourselves.
It is a small, but cosy venue. There is no menu, just a specials board. Having said that, the "specials" looked interesting. We all had varied tastes, and the main courses seemed to provide for everyone.
We had a sharing starter and then onto the mains. All were tasty. We don't know, but suspect that the kitchen doesn't do much "fresh cooking" at the time. No matter, because what was served was excellent and we certainly have no complaints. Service was very informal which added to the more than laid back atmosphere. The greedy one in our company had pudding which the rest had coffee, which was excellent. An above average experience.
