A nice visit on Easter Friday so the place was very busy.
The house is very interesting with a mixture of the very old and more recent improvements.
Would definitely recommend

I took my wife and 2 teenage kids here on the way back from the lakes in March. I have been before and the house is really interesting. The gardens last time had been spectacular but this time of year there was nothing to get excited about. It really is a nice place to visit but its certainly not a day out at this time of year. 3 out of 5 may have been a bit harsh but I couldn't really give it a 4.

This house is old and has been significantly changed over and over again over the centuries making it truly fascinating. Wrap up well if you go in cold weather as it is barely heated (it’s probably almost impossible to heat). You could easily take at least two hours or more to do the house alone justice.

In late March the gardens are a bit bare but you can easily see that in the summer they will be stunning. Hopefully one day I’ll get back there at that time of year.

A lovely place to visit for all ages. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept with a large rockery style garden (with a pond full of currently breeding frogs)and herb garden with a small lake out front with a few swans. The house itself is lovely but for older children. The grounds are buggy friendly but bags and buggies need to be left at the entrance (returned when you leave) as there are quite a few stairs.
