Having walked up the hill to see the castle built by Queen Catherine Parr's grandfather William, we returned to the town to visit the Parish Church to see where he was buried. Have to say that his tomb was rather unimpressive, but the Church is well worth the visit in itself.
We were told that it is probably the third widest parish church in England, and wider than even Carlisle Cathedral, a fact that we can well believe, as it's vast and rather breathtaking. Due to it's construction it's very light inside too, not a gloomy old church at all and well worth a visit

We had no idea that Kendal hosts the largest church in the Lake District. Parts of it were from the X111 century but most is more modern. It used to host 1100 people which must have been extraordinary.

Inside it has some lovely stained glass windows & smaller chapels to both sides. Well-worth a visit.

This church is a leftover from the glory years of the Church of England and sits in the town -centre as a reminder if what things used to be.
It is sad in one way and must be a nightmare to the church authorities.Funding the decline must take all the injunity of the authorities. This is a very large building and will be very difficult to keep up with ,especially as it has very little beauty in itself.
So sad if one is a churchgoer.

This church is enormous, and has really beautiful stained glass windows. It is very historic having been established in the 11th century. There are lots of leaflets to tell you about the history and point out the effigies, plaques and statues.
