It will make your visit more interesting if you pick up one of the leaflets which will guide you round the church. It is the oldest building in Kendal and part of it dates from the 13th century and various additions have been made to it since. There are a few small chapels which are memorials to various people. The stained glass windows are beautiful and what talented people worked on them. There is a large organ and a 15th century font. It is a stunning building looking at it from the outside as well.

We were quite taken aback by the width of this gorgeous church, the widest in the UK, the stone carvings, the Gothic arches and the stained-glass windows. Definitely worth a visit when visiting Kendal.

Seen from the river, the church is enormous and definitely lives up to its description of the largest church in England!

It is equally impressive inside with central nave and two side ailses on either side. The outer north aisle is as large as the average church...

There is plenty to see and admire - the modern sculpture of 'the family of man' in the outer south aisle and the wonderful modern corona in the North outer aisle. There is the table tomb of Sir Thomas Parr, grandfather of Katherine Parr, the tomb and brass of Sir Roger and Lady Bellingham of Levens Hall and the tomb of nine year old Walter Strictland with his effigy under it... Don't forget to look up for the painted angels in the roof.
