Our afternoon tea at Claridegs, which was a birthday treat for my husband and me from our son and daughter-in-law, was the perfect ending to our London weekend break. We relaxed in the elegant surroundings, complete with painist and cellist playing in the background, and enjoyed a delicious array of sandwiches, scones cakes and pastries, and as much tea as we could drink. The staff were very welcoming and our waitress looked after us wonderfully. We could have stayed there eating and drinking all afternoon if only we hadn't had a train to catch. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Afternoon Tea at Claridge's in London is an institution and rightly so. Bookings are essential (unless you are a celebrity of course)! We went there to celebrate a friends birthday and were treated very well. You can choose from Afternoon Tea with or without Champagne - we had the Rose Champagne with our Afternoon Tea, which was the most expensive (£62.00 per person,) but worth it. An array of finger sandwichs is first served... and are continued to be served until you have had enough. Be warned though, they might look small and dainty and but can fill you up very quickly, so do be sure you leave room for the next two courses.
Next you will get the scones with 'Marco Polo Jelly' - a very interesting and light tasting jam and the best Clotted Cream I have ever spread over a scone! Then comes the delicate selection of sweet pastries - N.B. if you have a nut or any other allergy do let the staff know when you book and they will be happy to ensure that your food is free from your allergy.

If tea is your thing then there is a good selection of different varieties available to you, including some rare teas (although there is a supplement to pay for these). I'm not a tea drinker but never fear coffee lovers are looked after too - although the Cappuccino is very strong!

The staff are attentive but never over-bearing and no request is too much for them.

Afternoon Tea at Claridge's is served in The Foyer and The Reading Room on the ground floor. I personally prefer the Reading Room as it is warmer (in temperature and decor) and is further away from the live music - I prefer things quieter. Do make sure you ask for a table in the Reading Room when you book but be aware that there is no guarantee you will get it as it is always so popular.

Overall the quality, service and location is fault-less - just remember to book your table as early as you can!

My husband booked a table for our wedding anniversary. We were not told that the restaurant owned by Gordon Ramsay was closed and were seated in a small area close to lobby where most people were using their laptops. The menu was limited and the food unforgettable. My husband had ordered and paid for roses to be given to me. These did not arrive and not wishing to make a fuss, he said nothing but told me in the taxi home. I felt so disappointed that his plan for a happy evening was spoiled.

Afternoon tea with Champagne - excellent service, great atmosphere - stayed for hours, wasnt hurried. Took some Texan ladies who have not been to the UK before - they LOVED it. A bit pricey, but worth it for the experience. Totally reccomended.
