This was my second visit, fresh and good quality ingredients that you can taste. Good selection of wine. The service could be better, needs a bit of improvement.
We will go back again.

It is early January so the restaurant was very sparse although that was a welcome change from the last visit I made some three years ago when it was absolutely rammed. It looks as thought they've removed some of the smaller tables in the middle of the room and created a far less 'pressurised' atmosphere. The service was good, all staff were friendly although I was a little disappointed not to get personal wine advice from a sommelier (probably not economic to have one but this restaurant isn't cheap and Mark Hix is a well known chef so I would have expected one). The lunch we had was nice without being special the service was good so overall i would recommend this as a good lunch venue but not if you are really trying to impress. I can't say anything bad about the food but from my last distant experience there I'm guessing that Mark Hix himself hasn't been near the kitchen for quite a while. I appears to have gone from a restaurant on the edge of a michelin star to just a 'quite good' restaurant which is a shame.

I would have given this restaurant a 5 but the service just lets it down. We were sat down for half an hour (or more) before anyone came to take our order. We were happy enough catching up but ended up having to wave someone over. We ordered the Sunday roast (very good choice) and spotted cauliflower cheese as a side on the menu. We were debating whether to have 1 or 2 sides of cauliflower cheese, we weren't sure 1 would be enough and asked the waiter his thoughts he showed us the size of 1 portion so we decided to go with 2. Guess what - the roasts come with cauliflower cheese on the side - why did the waiter not tell us this?! We ended up not even touching the 2 sides that we ordered! We mentioned it at the end to a different waiter, he didn't really have much to say on the matter and couldn't understand our frustration. Given the prices you expect better, faster and more attentive service.

Would have given this place 5 out of 5 but it was let down by the slow and inattentive service. The food is very very good though. Fish is specialty and great and some British classics done very well. The rack of lamb was delicious. Service was so slow though (and our order was taken incorrectly too) so I am loathe to go back. If you are paying several hundred ponds for a meal for your family you expect the service to be better - the restaurant wasn't even particularly busy either, so no excuse. I'll go to the The Ivy or similar instead next time - which is ironic considering whose name is on the door here! The bar downstairs looks good though so I'll likely visit there at some point...

Second visit to this establishment . Returned for the porterhouse . First time around the service was very slow the food was average . However the meal on New Year’s Day was specatacular . Partly due to the efforts of the maitre d. He was nothing short of 1%, best of the best . Made it very special for us.
Ordered scrambled eggs salmon, crab, prawn cocktail . Crab was fabulous , mix of light flavour and generous portion . Prawn cocktail also lovely flavour and texture. The scrambled eggs were a winner , finally a restaurant that, turns out great scrambled eggs . The best in London!
Porter house great cut perfect char , good Meat , great texture .
Lobster great flavour
Chocolate again probably the best u’ll Find in the uk. Ice cream perfection !
In conclusion, it was simply utopia !
