It was a Sunday in Soho, but the amount of things off the menu was frankly a little embarrassing. The waitress didn't know her wine, and was quite happy to serve the clearly off wine, despite having apparently tasted it first.
The starters were laid before the wrong people. While this isn't a huge crime, when you're paying for a good meal, you expect more.
The steak we shared was ok, but only so.
In summary, very below average for the price you pay.

Was worried at first, from outside seems really pretentious...not what we wanted for an easy Saturday afternoon bite to eat in between shopping...

We were greeted by a Friendly & Efficient Host & sat down to read a Lovely Menu of British Food served without Gimmicks but also a bit of care & attention!

I had Fish & Chips! I’m dead against Fish & Chips in a Restaurant environment as I just love it from the paper outside in Whitby...but, my 2week craving for Fish & Chips won me over & I loved it! Crisp Fresh & Delicious...my only tiny complaint was the Mushy Peas were actually crushed Petit Pois & not Old School Mushy Peas, but I got over that quickly enough!

Credit Crunch Ice Cream is Brilliant!

Will be back & actually looking forward to the next time I’m dragged to London on a Shopping Trip :)

This was my second visit, fresh and good quality ingredients that you can taste. Good selection of wine. The service could be better, needs a bit of improvement.
We will go back again.

It is early January so the restaurant was very sparse although that was a welcome change from the last visit I made some three years ago when it was absolutely rammed. It looks as thought they've removed some of the smaller tables in the middle of the room and created a far less 'pressurised' atmosphere. The service was good, all staff were friendly although I was a little disappointed not to get personal wine advice from a sommelier (probably not economic to have one but this restaurant isn't cheap and Mark Hix is a well known chef so I would have expected one). The lunch we had was nice without being special the service was good so overall i would recommend this as a good lunch venue but not if you are really trying to impress. I can't say anything bad about the food but from my last distant experience there I'm guessing that Mark Hix himself hasn't been near the kitchen for quite a while. I appears to have gone from a restaurant on the edge of a michelin star to just a 'quite good' restaurant which is a shame.

I would have given this restaurant a 5 but the service just lets it down. We were sat down for half an hour (or more) before anyone came to take our order. We were happy enough catching up but ended up having to wave someone over. We ordered the Sunday roast (very good choice) and spotted cauliflower cheese as a side on the menu. We were debating whether to have 1 or 2 sides of cauliflower cheese, we weren't sure 1 would be enough and asked the waiter his thoughts he showed us the size of 1 portion so we decided to go with 2. Guess what - the roasts come with cauliflower cheese on the side - why did the waiter not tell us this?! We ended up not even touching the 2 sides that we ordered! We mentioned it at the end to a different waiter, he didn't really have much to say on the matter and couldn't understand our frustration. Given the prices you expect better, faster and more attentive service.
