Royal Lancaster London

Location (8/10): Walk out the door and you are in Hyde Park one of the largest parks in central London. Walk 5 minutes in the other direction and you get to Paddington Station a central railway terminus and subway complex. Best thing: You can catch the Heathrow Express there that brings you in 15 minutes to the airport.

Service (8/10): I actually hate it, when they charge 30 Pounds in advance to your credit card. When I take something out of the mini bar, I pay for it the next day. When I make a phone call from the room, I pay for it the next day… Charging my credit card in advance tells me ‘we don’t trust you. You are a potential thief.’ Not a very nice first impression. The concierge guys however where very nice and very helpful.

Gym (0/10): A hotel in this price category without a gym? Kind of ridiculous. However: Hyde Park is next door. Maybe one of the nicest places in the world to take a run in the morning.

Breakfast (7/10): A very (!) nice breakfast room. Quality and quantity is very good. Coffee is is just okay and espresso or cappuccino cost extra.

Internet Connection (0/10): Ridiculous expensive. Something I really don’t understand. In more or less every coffee shop I can get free Wifi – but in an expensive hotel not. Can anyone explain?

Room (8/10): Everything was high standard and clean.

As you can see, I have some mixed emotions about the Lancaster London. The location is really great and the hotel is in a very nice area. More or less everything is high standard. But the room was rather expensive. And with no wifi and no gym – I probably will not stay there again. But don’t worry: if you decide to go there it is definitely not a bad choice.

Was an expensive hotel and most of the price I think was due to the location.

Reception staff spoke English but not very well.

Parking was limited. It is Central London mind you. Doormen were helpful it finding a parking spot else where.

Room was a little on the small side. Bathroom was tiny. Bidet was not required in such a small space!

I would stay again if I required the location and if I did not have to pay.

Hotel was ok however the cost per night was very expensive for a very small room. Interior was dated and in urgent need for a re-vamp.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of Hyde park

Given that this is a four star hotel and the price of the rooms I was disappointed to find the rooms no bigger, if not smaller than your average Travel Lodge. To add insult to injury wireless access cost an additional £17 per day.

Food was good, silver service a bit over the top. Staff courteous and friendly.
