Review of St. Etheldreda's

St. Etheldreda's
Reviewed 30 September 2017 via mobile

Discovered this beautiful church during lunchtime explorations of the Farringdon area. Although signposted, it's 'hidden' in Ely Place. The downstairs room was full of diners on my first visit, so couldn't be entered. That treat came later. The church upstairs was open however and is every bit as stunning as the pics depict. Material is available to explain the stain-glass windows. A lunchtime service seems to be held daily and young city workers form part of the congregation. Sundays are supposed to be popular for worshippers who travel from afar to be part of the service. Booklets explaining the history of the church are available for purchase.

This restored Romanesque church has lovely stained glass depicting the martyrs. It was damaged in the war and rebuilt in the 1950s.

Visited St Etheldreda`s as part of a day out in London, what an absolute gem, If you are in this part of London it is a real must, half an hour is enough to see this very beautiful Chapel, the glass is amazing, if you are not religious go anyway and appreciate this gem from London`s past

was invited to attend a little do here by a company we utilise as a celebration. It is very difficult to find some where with the OOWW factor, well this definitely has it. The presence and the feel of the surrounds are amazing, the staff float around without being scene and answer every request and the food is superb. If you are planning an event this is the place to have it if you want to impress. You might of gathered thought it was a brill place!!!!

Hidden away in Ely Place is this beautiful Catholic Church. It is almost always open. It has lovely modern stained glass and statues of Catholic Martyrs. It has an a unique atmosphere. It's a short walk to Smithfield where many of the Catholic and even more Protestant Martyrs were put to death when religion in the UK was violent and unforgiving.
