“Whitehall GARDENS”
Review of Whitehall

The gardens are the best spot to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy area. Across from the London Eye on the Westminster side of the Thames are trees, statues and a beautiful grand building. At the far end is the Jubilee walking bridges that offer the views of the Eye and Big Ben. This is my favorite place to walk through when in the area. Hours are specific and closes at night but hopefully it is open and you can enjoy a different view than expecting when in the area.

Whitehall is one of our favourite boulevards in London. We have made a point of strolling its entire length each time that we have stayed in the city. There is just so much to see along its entire length.
During our most recent visit, there was no real surprise to see how much security had been strengthened along the length of the boulevard. Since our last visit, safety barriers had been installed along either side of the roadway to protect pedestrians on the footpath. There had also been a noticeable increase in security around the entrance to Downing Street.
Despite the strengthening of security along this very important London road, we still thoroughly enjoyed yet another visit there!

We were honoured to be taken on a private tour of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by a friend who wroks there. What a rare treat indeed. This grand buildingis teeped in history and the banqueting halls and wide sweeping staircases echo with the conversations of many a foreign dignitary. Well worth a visit if you ever get the chance.

Go on foot from Trafalgar square down this road. Every building aroud is historical. Take a pick to 10 Downing Street, and continue southward to the Parliament squre and Big Ben. You can go there by bus, but walking is better.

This busy road is lined with government buildings and links Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square. It is much thinner at one end than the other. It is rammed with vehicles throughout the day and on Saturday nights until the early hours. If only it could be traffic free then the Cenotaph, the memorial to our war dead would stand proud in a peaceful and unpolluted environment which it surely deserves. It's worth walking down, but don't dally or you'll inhale too many fumes!!!
