“An Impressive & Magnificent Road”
Review of Whitehall

Whitehall

Whitehall is one of the most well known roads in London.
It links Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square & is home to many government buildings & offices. Most famous being Downing Street.
Our visit to Whitehall on this occasion was to watch the Armistice Day service.
Whitehall was closed in preparation for the service which gave us the chance to freely walk admiring the many great statues.
We managed to position ourselves in front of the Cenotaph for the incredibly moving service.
A truly magnificent road with much to see.

Though each of the monuments and buildings in the area are only worth a passing glance, taken all together on this road it is a must see. The whole of England is run from this area. Easy access from Big Ben and Westminster area to Trafalgar Square.

A walk along Whitehall is a time for reflection on the History of a nation. The statues and iconic buildings reflect significant events for the nation. The horse guards add something special to occasion.

The gardens are the best spot to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy area. Across from the London Eye on the Westminster side of the Thames are trees, statues and a beautiful grand building. At the far end is the Jubilee walking bridges that offer the views of the Eye and Big Ben. This is my favorite place to walk through when in the area. Hours are specific and closes at night but hopefully it is open and you can enjoy a different view than expecting when in the area.

Whitehall is one of our favourite boulevards in London. We have made a point of strolling its entire length each time that we have stayed in the city. There is just so much to see along its entire length.
During our most recent visit, there was no real surprise to see how much security had been strengthened along the length of the boulevard. Since our last visit, safety barriers had been installed along either side of the roadway to protect pedestrians on the footpath. There had also been a noticeable increase in security around the entrance to Downing Street.
Despite the strengthening of security along this very important London road, we still thoroughly enjoyed yet another visit there!
