This wasn't the first time we stayed at this hotel and it was always satisfactory. That being said, we weren't so happy this time round. The shower did not have warm water and even though we complained more than once, the issue was never resolved. We had to resort to bathing ourselves in the toilet sink. The shower head was old and not detachable and splashed water everywhere when switched on.

That being said, the hotel is serviced by an elevator, making it easy to move luggage. It is also very close to Paddington train station.

We stayed for three nights over Easter.

The manager and staff were very pleasant, making sure that we were settled in and that any small issues in the room were dealt with straight away. They also gave good advice regarding the local pubs and restaurants (you must try the Victoria down the street).

The only negative was the breakfast. We went on the first morning and found the staff rude and overbearing, and found the breakfast cold. So we didn't go back.

However, the room itself was great; it was warm, very quiet (we couldn't hear any rumbling from Paddington or noise from the street). The Wifi was free and fast, the shower pressure was good and the water as hot as one could take it.

All in all, a great gem of a hotel for extremely good value in a lovely area of London.

We stayed for two nights and had no complaints at all.
We were in room 303 which is at the back of the hotel so very quiet at night and we both had undisturbed nights. The bed was really comfy, bathroom although small had been upgraded nicely - bright and modern. The room itself could do with an up grade but was spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was very good and plenty to choose from, croissants, cheese, fruit, cereal, juice and cooked breakfast. The catering staff were hilarious and we shared a joke and a giggle.
The guys on reception seem to get a bad press in previous reviews but we found the 3 chaps we dealt with to be cheerful and helpful.
Good central location with an excellent pub at the bottom of the road, The Victoria. Overall a basic but good, well run hotel. Would stay again.

Room tip: 303 was quiet.

Location of hotel was good, a stones throw from Hyde park and Paddington train station so was a very convenient place to stay. Upon arrival man at desk was helpful, booking.com had my details incorrect and we were in a small room with a two year old, given an upgrade to a slightly bigger room, which was small but wasn't a bother for us as it was just a place to rest overnight whilst we visited London attractions. The room itself was ok, wouldn't say 4 star, quite dated decor and the window was a full bay window that opened up completely onto a balcony (ish) that was crumbling. It wasn't particularly safe so we had to keep it closed, with the heating on most of the time we were there it was rather warm! The bathroom was faultless, basic and functional. Tea and coffee and a hairdryer were provided. The bed wasn't overly comfortable so didn't have a great nights sleep, the pillows could do with a refresh as they are rather lumpy. Wifi was offered but the password wasn't written anywhere in the room. The breakfast was ok. Again wouldn't say 4 star. Mini crossaints cereals toast and ham/cheese slices out for picking with the basic cooked breakfast (one sausage, two bacon egg, one hash brown and tomato) overall id rate it 3. It was an ok hotel stay, wouldn't recommend it as a 4 star hotel, as it could do with an update

I have been here several times over the last two years.
The location is very convenient and you have all the amenities you need at hand: Lancaster Gate Tube Station, buses to west/east London, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens if you like jogging, restaurants, shops and Paddington railway station.
The surrounding area is plenty of hotels, hostels, b&b and apartments so you are more likely to fall in with tourists.
Generally speaking this facility is well organized. There is 24-hour reception and members of staff are quite polite and efficient.
The rooms are clean and tidy although I happened to notice holes in the blankets from time to time. The insulation against undesired noises and draughts is not the best as there are no double glazed windows.
I have to say though that nearly all the facilities of this range around Paddington share the same issue but in this case it's not a big problem as the hotel overlooks a side street.
There is a convenient lift if you carry heavy suitcases but there are a few steps to access the reception (people on a wheelchair would need assistance to get in).
The building is something between a hotel and a b&b in terms of space and price and in relation to London standards.
The breakfast is pretty good and substantial but the breakfast room is not very spacious so if you are a large group is better to make your way as soon as it opens.
The catering staff are very attentive and welcoming.
Overall a good place to stay but it is advisable to book well in advance especially if you are going to stay in spring or summer.

Room tip: Rooms on the right side of reception tend to be noisier
