Description: The famous haunt of journalists and barristers and immortalised as 'Pomeroys' by Rumpole of the Bailey, this wine bar and shop has a rich and colourful history and guarantees a warm welcome. Delicious, full flavoured dishes using best quality ingredients have a Spanish slant and are accompanied by an extensive wine list containing interesting wines from Spain, Portugal, South America as well as the classics from France and Italy. The genuine character and charm of El Vino Fleet Street provides a unique backdrop in which to entertain. El Vino Wine Merchants was purchased by Davy's in 2015 and El Vino has since been thoroughly refurbished.

Such a famous landmark. A wine bar with a restaurant attached. You get a clue when the menu has 11 pages of wine and 1 of food. There is an extensive list of wines. That is about it. The food is average and the overall cost is high.

I reserved a table on the official El Vino website on a Friday morning for the same afternoon. Upon entering I was asked 'what do you want' by what seemed to be the manager. I explained to her that I had booked a table on their website to which she responded 'No. No bookings from this morning. Maybe you didn't refresh the page on when you booked'. I didn't know what that meant. She then pointed to a table in the back corner. The food was okay apart from one dish that never arrived.

Dreadful food. Reheated and even that was not done very well. Staff shrugged their shoulders and more interested in closing up.

fortunate to happen upon this cozy little place after a business meeting. the interior is small and warm, with wine barrels around. they have a nice selection, I would only say that our server had very little knowledge of wine, which was fine as we knew what we wanted. very friendly though. we enjoyed some small plates of serrano ham and pickles, marinated olives, manchego and hummus. enjoyable light evening.

This is no longer the place of the old Fleet Street, where journalists abounded, there were restrictions on ladies being allowed in, and the food was very British. Now it is rather mediterranean in menu although the decor is still more or less what it was. Sandwiches are available (and good, too)

Mercifully, there is no "muzak", and the place can be relatively peaceful, for somewhere in the City
