Description: The Bay Horse Beautiful English pub in Murton Take a step inside the Bay Horse and you'll soon appreciate the warm hospitality of this delightful 18th Century pub. Boasting a real log fire and exposed beams, the Bay Horse at Murton is a popular local pub that's perfect for those exploring the local area or just out on a country walk. We have a huge beer garden that is always popular in the summer - not much beats having a refreshing pint of your favourite ale unwinding on a warm summers evening. Equally though in winter you can gaze out onto the garden as the snow falls whilst feeling the flickering heat of the real log fire keeping you warm.Keep an eye out for our special BBQ nights in the summer. They are really great affairs for family and friends. Traditional English FayreWe have both a bar and a dining area. You can enjoy your freshly cooked meal knowing that it's been prepared using the finest local ingredients. We always source locally as it's not just good for the environment and local economy, but it just seems to taste nice too. For the real ale drinker we stock a good range of quality real ales. You will find that we have a large car park and a smoking area too.

Ordered food and sat to wait looking through dirty windows with the remnants of Christmas snow scenes onto dead hang baskets. The sign outside was ten days out of date advertising the Tour de Yorkshire bike race.
Food came we were the only ones eating at that time. Fantastic onion rings tasty home made burgers and well cooked chips.
Loved the laminated history of the pub on each table. It was obviously a well lived local hostelry at or time and I think it could be again. They were expecting the local tug of war team who hopefully would give the place a bit of a buzz and atmosphere .
Try visiting at the weekend. Our visit was Tuesday 12 th May our 31st wedding anniversary.
I hope for the sake of the pub the owners take on board the comments and pay attention to detail. It could be a valued local pub again.

This was our first and last visit! Our table, surroundings and cuttlery were dirty which didn't bode well for the food. A man brought our food, scowled and didn't say a word! We ordered chicken pie with veg. The chicken and sauce tasted foisty and our pastry top was hard and burnt. We couldn't identify all the veg which was shredded, tasteless and greasy! The male server/owner was intimidating in manner that we dare not complain! A waste of our hard earned cash!

the pub seemed short staff. and yet there were only 3 parties in. that so one of the regulars had to serve us. the food was well worth the wait, very good. the main problem was the receipt, a scrap of paper with just the total price on it! when asked for detailed till receipt, decided not to wait, and as we were outside the landlord came running out with a scribbled receipt which still wasnt detailed enough!! fortunately we had a rough idea what the total price should have been.

We bought a voucher for two main courses here from Living Social and decided to use it last night. The food is excellent and the portions hearty. I started with the grilled Goats' cheese (wonderfully presented, tasty and filling) and followed with the burger (homemade burger and home cut fries) that not only included a burger but chicken and bacon as well.

We've seen this pub from the outside before but never been in. Now that we've eaten there I think it highly likely that we'll return.

There were a few things that could be very easily improved that would have made an excellent meal even better. Firstly I like to look at a sample menu before we go somewhere to eat. Whilst the Bay Horse does have attempts at several web sites is they are all only partially complete and not very informative.

Secondly the car park is very dark and didn't have any lights on. Outside lighting here would be a big benefit when it's dark!

Thirdly when we got top the Bay Horse I walked up to the bar and said that we had a reservation. The barman replied "yes". That was all. It wasn't a problem as we were the only people eating in the restaurant last night but we were left to find a table, the menus and that we had to order at the bar ourselves. Do you have to order at the bar? We did but I'm still not certain that it's necessary.

Finally, when it came to paying the bill, we went to the bar but there was nobody there; we called, rang their bell and waited. After over five minutes the waitress came into the pub and appologised as she'd been looking at the decorating work to be done outside.

That said those problems are not enough to discourage us from eating here again.

First over charge for my drink, which was corrected when the bar lady spoke to owner. Waited for 40 mins for lunch after ordering, don't mind as fresh cooked BUTYorkshire puddings were burnt, the roast potatoes looked enimic, thought it was all boiled then the veg, most disappointing, frozen peas with chopped up celery and a couple of shreds of leek mixed in I think. The beef was good. I said straight away about the yorkshires, the waitress offered to take both back to be freshly redone, my partner was really hungry as waited for sometime for the meal to arrive so he ate his but I sent mine back. There should be no excuse for the lack of fresh local vegetables for Sunday lunch unless you are trying to cut corners. My only consulation was that we had a Living Social voucher to purchase this lunch but wished we had gone to the pub to use this one evening as now reading the reviews, the evening food looks better rated.
