Situated on the edge of Chipping Norton, yet a 5 minute walk away from the high street, restaurants and supermarket. The cottage is spacious yet cosy and well maintained. A kitchen containing all the appliances for cooking, baking and cocktails! Bedrooms large and comfortable with crisp fresh linens and towels. Sitting room cosy with a wood burner and a 6 place dining table. Beautifully decorated with the prettiest and freshest tulips for our arrival. We always had spaces for parking and it was easy to visit all the picturesque villages and towns in the area. Plenty of antique shops - I even bought a tea set and writing desk that I am shipping overseas. Would highly recommend. And a big thank you to the owners who provided us with teas, coffees and milk for our midnight arrival and the extra special treat - bottle of wine. The owners truly care about their guests.
The perfect base for a Cotswolds experience. The cottage was beautifully presented for our Christmas stay. The owners really put some thought into preparing Smithy for us.
We had plenty of room for our family of four.
The kitchen is well-appointed and has all the bits and pieces needed to cook for yourself. The bedrooms are comfortable and welcoming and you catch a sneak peak of the nearby fields through the small window on the stairs.
While it was too cold for us to use, the courtyard would be perfect for a cup of tea and a chat. There’s no onsite parking, but the owners helpfully provide a map showing free parking nearby, which can be limited during busy holiday periods.
We loved our stay and thank the owners for their thoughtfulness and care for maintaining a well-presented and welcoming cottage.
We stayed here whilst working locally.
A well stocked kitchen, comfy beds and a great shower really made it a comfortable stay.
We stayed for a week at The Smithy with four adults and a baby and the cottage was perfect size for that number of people.
The cottage looks as nice as the pictures and was very clean on arrival. We had a small issue come up with some unplanned roadworks and the owner was very helpful and responsive in dealing with this.
The location is fantastic - a 2 min walk to Sainsburys, co-op and a boots (amongst others) so very helpful when travelling with a baby. We weren't 100% sure about staying in Chipping Norton as it is further from other towns in the Cotswolds but actually found this to be a great spot for further adventures - close to great restaurants in Kingham (The Wild Rabbit, The Kingham Plough and Daylesford), as well as there being some good options locally in Chipping Norton (Wild Thyme and The Blue Boar), and not too far from Stow in the Wold and Bourton on the Water.
The only slight downside is that you have to rely on street parking although on the whole we didn't have many issues finding a park near the cottage.
Overall we thought this was great value and we would definitely stay again!
Very well equipped cottage in a town conveniently located to exploring the Cotswolds and Oxford. 4 adults comfortably stayed in the cottage for a weekend and all amenities were thought of by the owners. The welcome kit had enough provisions to make tea and coffee before we arrived and the bottle of bubbly and flowers were a lovely touch. The owners left plenty of information for us to find our way around the town and surrounding countryside.
We left a suggestion with the owners to consider the condensation in the bathroom which builds up significantly after 4 showers. However, leaving the window open helped.
