Russell Scott Hostel
Reviewed 13 April 2017

As expected, it was as friendly as the Leeds Hostel by "Russell Scott" , but a much more down to earth, the big common room was a very busy chatty place, enough for you to put your tablet away??
Rooms were OK , clean and comfortable, good sleep
The place is a way away and up a steep hill in a Sheffield suburb, about a 35 min walk from the Bus Station so catch the tram. As Leeds, Drinks available all day. It was a good happy place with good people.
Thanks good people

Room Tip: Seemed good to me

If you want to get to Sheffield and be told you have no room to stay in and then to be lied to by the ''manager'' that they tried to contact you, then this is the place for you. AWFUL customer service, the manager hasn't got a clue what she's doing and clearly just over books and doesn't have the courtesy to let the customer know. It worked well in the end though we went to another Hostel called Quick Stop in Sheffield which was brilliant. RUSSELL SCOTT HOSTEL IS A WASTE OF TIME.

Where to start with this place....
On our way to Sheffield the hostel called me, but i missed the call, i called back 4 times and no one answered, i left a voicemail, but i never did find out what they wanted.
It looks like its about to have a long over due refurbish as there was boxes of flooring in the hall way. (but looking at other reviews, this sounds like its already happened)
Our room was the first double as you walk in and it STANK of stale cigarettes. we opened a window but this didn't really help.
The bathrooms were upstairs but none of the showers worked, apart from one that was in an unmarked room with wet towels all over the floor, and we only noticed this because it was on constantly.
The guy who took our payment when we first got there was ok, but not very focused on us, was more bothered about talking to his "colleague" who he told us couldn't speak English.
On leaving, after not being able to have a shower, we handed the key back and as we were going out the door a member of staff yelled "**** off back to London" to us.
I would 100% never stay at this hostel again!

Room Tip: Don't pick any room!

Booked for a two day stay on a busy weekend of the year (large sports competition is on) only for our booking to be cancelled due to refurbishment. Already rude to take a booking and not honour it, but I wasn't given an option for other accommodation despite sounding on the phone that I didn't know what to do and had to find other accommodation, all just 6 weeks before. Phoned back the next week for a refund and a solution - no answer. Phoned back two weeks later, got an answer and a complete denial of the fact we needed relocation. The person on the phone was rude and insisted she was in the right. The fact is, she left a group of 20 frantically trying to find a new place to stay with little over a month and a lack of accommodation.

Sure it's cheap and looked decent enough, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I should have read the reviews. The rude guy on reception said he had no record of the booking, even though i had my booking reference on my phone.

No apology or concern at all.

And the place did look filthy, so he did us a favour!

This seems to be very common, so please avoid at all costs.
