Description: Without question, the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel is one of the finest retreats in Somerset and gourmet travellers adore its private landscaped gardens, luxury spa and award-winning restaurant. The Vellore dining room is located in this historic hotels former ballroom, and its grand ceilings and elegant cream colour scheme make this one of the most sought after dining destinations in town. Awarded 2 AA rosettes, the Vellore also boasts a canopied terrace for summertime al fresco dining and is a popular spot for celebrations, weddings, afternoon tea parties and stylish business events. We love the acclaimed modern English menu dont miss the loin of venison in juniper juices, and the spiced clementine panna cotta served with a mulled fruit compote.

Overall amazing food, in particular exceptional deserts. Lobster was superb, but unfortunately my partners gnocchi was quite insubstantial (5-6 pieces) though excellent tasting. Needed side orders to really feel like a sufficient amount of food.

Service was a bit slow, and was not particularly attentive, which was a surprise given that there wasn't a huge number of guests at the time. Servers were however extremely friendly, helpful, and polite.

We stayed on a special offer that included dinner. We were impressed with the dining room and staff and the choice on the menu. We decided to pay the supplement to have the beef , which was delicious and beautifully cooked. We also bought a bottle of wine , which although was fairly expensive compared to other hotels, was a very good wine.
When we signed for our bill, we noticed we were charged for service on the extras we had. So the wine in fact cost £30 and the supplement charge was in fact around £10 each not £8.50 . So if you have a dinner inclusive meal, be aware of this.
Also, ask for tap water...a bottle of sparkling water will set you back £5.50 plus service!
Staff were attentive and the food was lovely, but I'm not sure I would choose to dine here if not included in my hotel package. Breakfast also served in this room. Nice choice of food ,cold meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc and a hot breakfast as well. No service charge for breakfast!

We used the restaurant as we were staying in the hotel for a couple of days and once was enough. The room is very grand and the piano music a nice touch but the food just doesn't quite deliver what you would expect for the price. The wine list is extortionate - nothing is under £9 per 175ml glass - be careful you don't end up with the wrong bottle, it could cost you £100. We ate at Circus and Clayton's on the next two nights and both were significantly better.

The Restaurant is very well staffed with excellent service. The menu was not to extensive which is always a good thing, but the choices were varied with a range of local produce. We stayed for 3 nights and had different meals on each night. Every meal was a delight.

Elegant surroundings and good selection of breakfast food while on our travels. Great cup of tea! Make sure to look up at the ceiling, beautiful details in the room and excellent service.
