The staff are very friendly and want to look after you, but the building and furnishings are in very poor condition. Well worn settees and carpets, paintwork. The menu is quite limited and expensive for the portion you get but well cooked, so eat in Newmarket which has a very good selection of restaurants. Do hope the new owner's close the hotel and give it a complete refurbishment to the modern standards that travellers expect.

We arrived late as we had a long drive from Surrey. The car park was really poorly lit and to be honest I could hardly see where I was supposed to go. The reception doubled as a bar and we had to wait to check in. All the staff seemed to be young girls (which is fine but they were quite slow). We were showed to our room in the 'coach house'. Back up the unlit path to an outbuilding which I didnt even know was there. (Smelt a lot like mound and cannabis).
The room was very small with a double bed. (We were 2 ladies but were told they didn't do twin rooms?). Really the only good thing about it was that it was clean. I used the shower and it was some kind of pump system as the water wasn't continuous but came in flows. It was also either scalding hot or very cold.
We had breakfast the next morning which was adequate. We had an early race tour and advised that we only had 30 mins to spare. Even though we stated this and there was only 2 other tables they were still pretty slow.
Would not stay here again, next time I'll pay more and go more central in Newmarket as there is nothing in Exning.

We attended a birthday party at the hotel, the food was fantastic. Although some had allergies the hotel catered for all the allergies which made a very pleasant afternoon celebrating! Thanks to the chef.

Stayed here for one night whilst attending Newmarket Races as 2 families of 4.
We couldn't have been more looked after, yes the rooms are dated but spacious enough to fit a double bed and 2 singles in! Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and even a fan in the room.
We decided to book the restaurant for an evening meal and none of us were disappointed. The breakfast was good too, choice of cereals, fruit or the full English.
The staff were fantastic, a special mention to Ben who looked after us and couldn't have been any more obliging.
Would definitely stay again!

We are a family of three. We stayed in a garden room which was OK, if a little dated in décor. The bathroom was absolutely huge.... the room would have been better proportioned with smaller bathroom.

The breakfast was OK. The bar and breakfast area were also a little dated.

Only 1 complaint was that the pillows were cheap and non-pillowy, so I had to use a cushion from the sofa under my pillow.

Room Tip: wifi didn't work inside garden rooms, so had to sit in bar to use.
